Foot discomfort (not really pain) after hiking

Anonymous
Hi, maybe all the runners and athletes on here can help me out.

After 60 years of being relatively sedentary I'm hiking in the mountains a lot. After a year of this I have an odd feeling on the bottom of one foot that I sometimes notice while walking on a flat surface but not while hiking. First it was like a little electric shock running from heel to toe, along the centerline of my foot. Now that feeling is gone but it feels like there is something like a tendon popping occasionally when taking a step -- again the feeling runs from heel to toe. I don't notice it while on the ball of my foot. I use trail runners while hiking -- maybe I need stiff boots.

This has gone on for about a month. I can let it go and see if it gets better, or should I see a podiatrist? Any other tips? Thank you.

What kind of shoes do you wear when you are not hiking? What kind of shoes did you wear when you were younger?

I have had repetitive foot injury issues for years. It could be a tendon or could be the beginning of a stress fracture. I have found that going to an orthopedist for these issues is better than a podiatrist.
