I swear there is NOTHING WORSE than a house centipede. WHERE did they come from?! I swear they've just all of the sudden appeared in Northern Virginia in the past 8 years. Who brought them over from what country???
How do you get rid of them? Nothing worse than going to the bathroom at this house to come across a massive one. And then not be able to flush it because you just flushed the toilet so you have to watch it in panic in case it escapes. Kill me. |
| Get a cat. |
Can't. allergic |
Voting Trump? |
| Supposedly they like dampness. I got a dehumidifier for our basement and they did seem to get better. |
| Can you send them to my house? I just moved and our new place has roaches, which centipedes eat. But yea, I can understand the total ick factor. They are gross looking. |
| Primary reason why we have a pest control company spray the house monthly. They are monsters!!! |
| They also bite, and are poisonous. They're the worst. |
How much does that help though? all the articles I just spent the last hour reading basically say they come from the plumbing/drains? Apparently they also spend all their lifetime in the house. So can the pest control find where all the eggs are laid? Ugh they're so creepy and big. I don't care if they eat the spiders- they're so fast and scary!!! |
Get a hairless cat. |
Absolutely never. But thanks for the suggestion |
| spray bifen in and out of the house, bifen is safe even for food handling areas |
I get my house sprayed monthly, and they start dying right away (I find them dead). After a few months of spraying, I hardly find any now. |

The first time we lived here (back in 2000) we moved into a rental where the previous owners left a roach infestation. The first week we were there, we were sitting on the couch watching a show in the dark when we heard a scuttering noise on the floor. We flipped on the light and one of those giant hairy tan centipedes was running across the room. Freaked us out!
We got the landlord to treat the house and eventually got rid of the roaches. The centipedes left soon after that. After the first month or two, we never saw either of them again. I would get a pest contract if I were you. |
What about the chemicals though? I am not so sure about exposing my kids to those chemicals on the regular just because the company says they're safe. |
