Long weekend ideas w/i 2hr flight from DC

Anonymous
I don't have a lot of vacation time this year due to having recently returned from maternity leave and an upcoming family wedding. However, we'd like to go on a short getaway while DS is still little and portable. Looking for ideas for a destination within 2-3 hr direct flight from DC in September. We're outdoorsy but I'm actually more inclined to go to a city this time. Was thinking Seattle but probably too far plus we may be heading out that way next year. Would Charleston SC still be pretty hot in Sept.? Maybe Chicago or Minneapolis? TIA, I realize this is pretty open ended.

I love Chicago! Lots to do, walkable, great food and the weather will be nice in September.

My mom and I went away for a girls weekend in St. Petersburg, Florida a few months ago and it was great. There's plenty to do but we also spent time relaxing and taking walks along the water. We flew direct to Tampa, which is about 40 min away.

What about Portland, Maine? It'll be beautiful in September, you can fly direct from DCA and you can do a combo of small city and being outside.

- Fly to Charleston SC and go to Kiawah Island (30 minute drive via rental car). If looking for easy planning -- stay at the Inn (right on the beach).

- Fly to Burlington, VT and drive to a resort on Lake Champlain.

- Fly to Nantucket or the Vineyard - many hotel/inn options. Or Block Island and stay at Block Is. Inn.

These are great suggestions but maybe not for a weekend? Nantucket, the Vineyard and Block Island take a while to get to.

For another city option, Boston would be lovely that time of year. Or for another Canadian option, Montreal. I think the baby might need a passport though?

There are some direct flights to the Islands but some may be seasonal. There are plenty of small planes (e.g., Cape Air) that fly there regularly from Boston but not sure I would want to take a baby on one of those - they are super loud and probably not very car seat friendly (the seats are mostly like jump seats and much smaller than normal plane seats).
