glass front doors??

I do not understand the appeal of a glass front door. I would constantly be paranoid that someone would break into my house in addition to the lack of privacy! Is this a new trend?? Or perhaps I just happened to find a cluster of houses for sale in Trinidad with glass doors during my latest redfin search

We have glass side "vents" on our doors. We had them covered in security film (can't break through it.. bullet-proof in fact) and it also had a mirror tint on it so you can't see inside unless it's really dark outside and bright inside, and then only somewhat.

Some of those I think you could easily add blinds or a shade, small houses need the light. Probably redone by flippers who want looks over function.

I don't like it. It looks like a store.

I love ours- we do have a roll down shade for night

I dig them but in the geographic area you're describing I would want a security door with bars over the front if I'm getting an all glass door-in addition to a drape or shade that I can pull at night.

It does seem to be in. And in general I really like the look.

But I laughed when I read your post because the folks who recently moved in behind us just completed a huge to-the-studs renovation, including installing massive glass doors in the back of their house. No window covers (yet?). So when I stand at my kitchen sink and look out, I see straight into their house - the whole house since it is now open floor plan. Their house is pretty far away but still but their back yard is much smaller than ours and they are almost on the property line ... At night, when I'm washing up after dinner, I look out my window and see their whole house interior on display. With the lights blazing it is quite a show as they get their young ones rounded up, bathed and then settled down for the night! It makes me feel awkward, like a Peeping Tom, even though I'm trying not to look. But it is hard not to look out my own window. Anyway, I saw the family out in the yard yesterday and they mentioned how much they like the doors because they get so much more light. I didn't say anything. Sigh.

We have some serious landscaping to do on our side.

We recently got a glass door installed, as the old door had to be replaced. The new door isn't all glass, but it has full-length glass sidelights and a kind of half-length glass column down the middle. We like it; it lets in a lot more light.

A lot of us get wrought iron security doors with storms and screens to keep the light but improve the functionality. I broke a plate glass door by closing it with a push of my elbow. It doesn't take much. . .

I bought a house in DC with a glass front door. It does let in more light but we bought a shade and the shade is almost constantly down because of the privacy issues. I don't like it. It looks nice from the outside though.

I have a glass front door (not all glass but 80% is decorative window). I hate it. It's private in that the glass is textured but if you want to avoid the door people can still see movement.

We have a front door that is 50% glass. We pull the shade down at night and when we are away, but otherwise, it's up. I must not care about privacy as much -- my life is really not that interesting. If someone is really desperate to see me yelling at my kids to pick up their toys for the millionth time, I'm not going to deny them that privilege.

It is interesting--I wonder if younger generations are less concerned about privacy? In my DC neighborhood, I've noticed that the older neighors' homes often have blinds and curtains closed even during the day. In contrast, the homes of some of the younger folks often have blinds up and curtains open even at night (and some have those glass doors too).

Our front door is glass panes and we have no shade or window treatments. I want light and I could give a rat's ass if someone outside wants to waych me watching TV in my jammies.

Our front door is half glass with a rippled bubbled glass. You can only see blurs through it. It is super thick so you couldn't easily break it. Also it would be very clear to everyone on the street that you were burglarizing my house because it is a clear shot for neighbors to see.

I love the glass. It lets in a ton of light! I hate dark houses.
