Expectant and Postpartum Moms
|
I'm due with my first in about a week, and can't figure out how to pass the time! I think we have most of the gear, things should be mostly organized, we have been out to a few movies recently, seen friends. This feels like the last week of summer when you always tried to pack all the fun (and errands) in!
Anything you are planning on doing (or at least doing easily) one last time, or anything you wish you had done? |

Enjoy your last days as a twosome... the best is yet to come.
Congrats! Go out for more walks... Hugs. |
| Take naps. Lots and lots of naps. |
| Sleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep! |
| savor the peace and quiet. And yes...sleep! You will miss it for the next year. |

Pass the time by not necessarily expecting the baby to arrive in a week. You could have two more weeks of freedom left. Or three...
Carry a teeny-tiny purse. Eat awesome food in a very loud or very quiet atmosphere. Drive with the windows down and the music cranked up. Pretty up your eyebrows, toenails and legs. Wear dryclean-only clothing. Do something time-consuming and fun, but for which you'd never pay $12/hour. |

This is what I'd do.
Go out to eat at nice, quiet places and savor alone time with partner. Movies, movies, movies. Make and freeze some food for after the baby arrives. Hot meals are a rare treat in the first weeks, if not months. Call/see old friends. Take many long hot relaxing showers. Read a really good book -- not a baby book! I wish I'd never read any of the baby books. |

- Go to movies.
- Get a manicure/pedicure. - Get a massage - amazing for pregnancy pain and helps with relaxation. - Eat out someplace fancy. - Take long walks (will help baby get into position). - Get your email announcement ready and save as draft for after you come home. Enjoy these last few days! |
| Thanks for all the tips! I have never been good at waiting for things, but these all should keep me busy. |
| Rest. Rest. Enjoy the peace and quite and alone time. Get a pedi. Did I mention rest? |

the last week before my baby was born, I washed all his clothes and folded them and organized it in his room and would sit in the rocking chair in his nursery and imagine him in it. I tried to read as much as possible. I got my hair done, manicure and pedicure done. I wrote in a diary. I went out with friends but I remember that last week I was SO uncomfortable to even sit in a restaurant chair too long.
ENJOY! |

Enjoy a nice long hot shower or bath. It will be a very long time before you can relax in the shower/bath again....I shower quickly while my daughter is in the exersaucer! How I miss being able to take my time!

Yay to pedis. I got one a few days before my due date. My joke was a) the L&D staff would spend a lot of time seeing my feet (as they were up near my ears), and b) when things got too painful, I could focus on my pretty, pretty toes.
And you know, I did get a few compliments from the nurses in the lull between contractions.

I'm a week away from #3 so I've got quite a list of last minute stuff to accomplish but I did manage to get a massage yesterday and plan on getting a pedi this week. I've also scheduled the week to include:
Getting the dogs a bath (at a drop off spot) so they're not stinky when we get home Final run to Costco for wipes/frozen foods Preparing a couple of casseroles to freeze Finishing up baby albums for #1 and #2! Scheduling a cleaning lady to come while I'm in the hospital so the house won't be destroyed when I return Loading my ipod with some shows/music to keep me entertained. Getting all the baby supplies organized and stations set up where needed (our bedroom, family room floor, etc.) Reading my baby books b/c even after 2 you completely forget what to expect and do! |
LOL! I second the "Carry a teeny-tiny purse." Spot on! Do something for yourself and relish in the solitude. |
