Cute coastal town w/in 6 hour drive of DC/MoCo?

Anonymous
Looking for a cute coastal town for a two night stay within a 6 hour drive of DC/MoCo. Thoughts?

Tips on specific towns, hotels, etc. would be tremendously appreciated!

PS - Not interested in outer banks or DE beaches...looking for something new.

Thanks, but we are from MD and have done all the usual places. I'm looking for someplace new and different, so nothing in MD, DE or the OBX. Jersey shore is probably out since it's tough to find hotels there and we aren't interested in doing a full week rental.

Wondering if there's someplace in NY or CT?

What's Mystic like?

What's Montauk like?

We have kids ranging from 4 to 12. We like beaches, fishing, boat rides, walking around cute towns with shops, bakeries, ice cream, and seafood.

Cape May has hotels

Might be pushing past 6 hrs for NY/CT coastal towns. Mystic, Newport. Hamptons feel more country to me than coastal.

Add OC NJ to your list too. I think there are a few hotels.

Fly up to Portland, Maine. Or Bar Harbor.

That would be lovely, but it's not in the budget. We are a family of six, and we're just looking for a two or three night driving trip. We will have already done Bethany a few times this summer, so we are looking for something different.

I think 6 hours is probably our limit for such a short trip.

Google says Mystic is 5 1/2 hours from our home. Any thoughts on Mystic?

The problem is 95 traffic in the summer. If you time it right and use Waze you could do it quickly. But if you hit 95 at the wrong time you could be stuck for a few extra hours.

Mystic is a cute little town. I can't picture beaches but there must be some around there. Lots of boats. Aquarium.

Cape May is an easier/shorter drive but is more beachy than boaty. There are boat rides, trolley rides, etc. A big seafood restaurant - the Lobster House.

You can use Google street view to get a better feel for what they're like.

Forgot to add -- Stick to hotels in places like Beach Haven on LBI.
