Thanks, but the award should go to FCPS and the Wokies for all of their support and providing what we needed to achieve this honor.

If by wokes you mean the people trying to provide a fair and level admission process, sure. I really more concerned by the right-wing extremists advocating for a rigged system that favors the affluent.

“Fair and level” - now that’s funny.

Hi everyone,

Our group recently sent a VFOIA (Virginia Freedom of Information Act) request to the TJ Admissions Office. Through this request, we were able to obtain key data about this past year's admissions process that was not publicly available before. EduAvenues's mission is to take the guesswork out of education. We wanted to analyze and share all of this data directly with you.

We have published the data & insights on our site – https://www.tjtestprep.com/data. We have also carefully analyzed this data and compiled key insights about the process. We highly recommend that you read through this post, as the data is valuable to anyone who has recently gone through the admissions process or will be applying to TJ in the future.

To some people, fair is only when they have the advantage. Some people, “fair” means for “fair skinned people”. Those two are usually what they mean by “fair” in our local public schools.

If you people were educated you would know about the Arrow Impossibility Theorem, which basically states that society can't create a universal definition of fairness. You are all just a bunch special interests pissing on each other, claiming moral superiority, yet not realizing that you are all full of crap.

My oldest went to TJ, the middle got accepted but decided to stay at base school, and the third didn't even applied. When my eldest got accepted, I told her she would have a good an experience at our base HS and wouldn't have to deal with the long bus ride each morning. She went ahead anyway since a group of her close friends also got accepted. It was a struggle for her the first couple of years but it eventually turned out to be a great experience for her, graduated and went on to UVA. The younger two stayed at our base HS, also had great HS experience, with the exception of the pandemic for the youngest. The middle also attended UVA and graduated in 3 years. The last is entering UVA this Fall. All 3 decided to major in CS.
The point of this long rambling is that TJ is just another HS for all of its reputation, and kids can find success at any HS in FCPS. With the politicizing and parental cliquish meddlings, I wonder why parents are still so enamored with the school.

My kid started RCMS wanting to apply to TJ. After six months of seeing the competition and the bs posturing she was no longer interested. 4 25 gpa, geometry, and a first generation immigrant with a good hardship story. So she probably had a shot. But does not consider herself a special genius and will be just fine at the base school.

Algebra in 7th and Geometry in 8th would be honors and I think those give a grade point boost but I could be wrong.

Uh, no. Just no. FCPS needs to stop rewarding radical acceleration like this. The ELL and FARM students who are academic stars and want STEM need to be allowed into TJ.

Your accelerated kid does not need TJ.

I totally get why every parent who went this route is upset now. It was the sure way into TJ. Now it’s not.

To be clear math acceleration isn’t terrible. That’s up to the parent. It’s just a clear sign the kid is getting outside enrichment in some form that isn’t a possibility to all FCPS students.

The only problem with your argument is that it is not a sure sign of outside enrichment.
Why can't people get into their thick skulls that TJ admissions is not designed to hose over FARMs students? Similarly, admission of unqualified student won't help anyone. When it come to high school admissions, it is already too late. Family values may be more important than education resources. Also, prepping can help testing but won't necessarily adequately prepare a student. Asians are not intellectually superior but may have some good values when it comes to education.
As far as some students deserving the opportunities provided by TJ and others not, screw you. FCPS should try to provide the best education for each student subject to budgetary constraints. I am so sick of the racists on both sides of this issue.

It is a sure sign of outside enrichment. I have a profoundly gifted child. Even profoundly gifted kids do not learn above grade level math without outside enrichment.

This is not true. Kids are sometimes accelerated within FCPS in the early grades through their own readiness and exploration, no enrichment at play.

My mom taught me from books she'd used as a kid. It eventually let to me taking Calc in 10th grade. Today, I practice with my daughter using problems I've downloaded for free off the Internet. Either way, I'm sure its not what people have in mind when they complain about "outside enrichment."

Kids who is able to learn outside the school don't deserve the advance public education resource like TJ.

You sound so dumb and pathetic. TJ isn't a "your kid is lacking so send them to TJ for help!" like wtf. It is made up of talented, overachieving kids - which is why it's the number 1 school is the country. You clearly need help

Not really the PP kind of nailed it when they said kids learning from prep don't deserve it.

I wouldn’t say they don’t deserve it. I’d say kids who learn outside of school are not entitled to advanced public education.

Personally, I think people who post on DCUM are not entitled to oral free speech. Removing their tongues seems an appropriate response. Anesthesia should only be optional.

So let me get this straight… we as a society should be discouraging kids from learning outside of school?

I wouldn't go that far, but public schools should not make decisions about advanced placement based on outside classes.
