Was it a specific podcast? Or were they just referencing him over the past year?
it's the most recent episode of their podcast called 'the thought shower'.
What was the reference? I can’t access it for some reason.
I honestly had it on while doing other things, so don't remember verbatim, but here are some random nuggets...
- Shelby indicated she hadn't spoken to Kane since right before the lockdown last year
- John said he 'always planned to reach back out to the girls directly when they were in HS/college to see if they needed anything' (not sure what he meant exactly, but also seemed to suggest he didn't have a speaking relationship with Kane and by extension his daughters)
- Kept emphasizing that 'every thing they did was for the girls'
- John said he had anger towards Kane, but at the end of the day it didn't matter/was pointless given the circumstances
The fight that happened was not just Kane and Erick. It was Kane vs E and IJ.
Kane was missing lots of work and the rule was that when there was no Kane, there was no live show and a rerun played. It started happening more and more and numbers at the station started suffering. Ad time during a rerun doesn’t sell for as much as a live show. Profits suffer. No one likes that.
Erick and some higher ups had a meeting and decided to change things to let IJ talk the helm and run the show when Kane was out. IJ was on board, duh, and a meeting was had with Kane to let him know. He was pissed. Felt like his BFF and protege was trying to take his job. There’s no Kane show without Kane blah blah blow up.
Words were said. Tempers flared. Everyone parted. Kane was notified in writing that it was happening regardless of his feelings on the matter and he blew up again on E and IJ. A physical altercation happened with Kane throwing hands first. He was suspended and then subsequently fired from the show. He was kept on the iHeart payroll because he was still under contract.
Kane was done in radio. At least top 40 radio.
It’s sad and tragic. It’s terrible for his girls and family. He didn’t kill himself, though.
