Tell me about St Andrews in Scotland

St Andrews probably is the most hated non-US university among the posters at DCUM.

Yet, they have no difficulty finding highly qualified students to attend, or with their graduation rate, as the annual Times Good University Guide and separately the UCAS statistics make quite clear.

Oh, please. Pointing out that a school isn't Oxford or Cambridge in response to ridiculous boosterism is hardly the same thing as "hating" it.

+1. The Stoxbridge people here are ridiculous. Terrible insecure about their choice so need to crowdsource . . . a lot

The insecure people are the Oxford and Cambridge grads who don’t realize that their schools are facing the same pressures as Harvard and Penn now that people see that elite no longer equates to best.

St Andrews is not a top 10 in Europe but who cares. It's a very good university with good academics and good social life and without the political indoctrination prevalent in too many US unis these days.

The best universities in America offer arguably the best undergraduate education, and at least for job prospects (particularly in North America), a U.S. degree will get you farther. I know it's not popular to say these kinds of things (I feel like I need to say that I am not remotely near a MAGA head), but I feel like it warrants mention.

Sorry to break it to you, but you sound worse then a MAGA head, given your level of education and I assume wealth.

Sadly, the political indoctrination is there too: https://www.jewishnews.co.uk/st-andrews-university-rector-sent-students-hamas-websites-stella-maris/ .

European students and many faculty are drinking the same Kool Aid as US students and faculty.

Why do you insult like this? It’s childish, not helpful and you lose the bulk of your readers who just pass over internet name calling

Uh it’s ranked 352 in the world according to the gold standard USNWR. That’s not good. And its reputation for taking wealthy Americans for their money is well-established. Go read earlier thread on t Andrews here

PP I can also show you the Guardian and Times ranking where it is ranked Number one.
In the end these rankings are not what counts.

My child attends. They say the UK kids are incredibly bright- it's super hard to get in from the UK. The Americans and international students are richer and also smart- (think Emory/Tufts/Weslyean stats - My kid was 3.75-ish at a big 3 with a 35 ACT) bit maybe not as accomplished as the Brits. PS my kid loves, loves, loves it there.

Don't even try. Everyone knows they are "bought" tabloids. I am English.

USNWR national rankings are widely used, but not its global rankings. I don't love THE or QS insofar as undergraduate education is concerned, but they are both used much more frequently than the USNWR's global rankings.

St Andrews ranked 95th in the world in the QS rankings. Haters going to hate.

Georgetown is #324 on that same USNEWS global ranking

ND is 322

Wake is 463

GMU is 478

UVM is 510

Colorado School of Mines is 564

American is 590

BC is 618

William and Mary is 624

RPI is 698

Maybe time to put the bullshit rankings away.
