A thread of optimism: why do you think Trump will win in 2020?

The tri county areas making up the two cities are experiencing construction boom but is running short of Hispanics for construction. So no one here cares about immigration either.

NC is going to be a battle ground this year. And Trump has to fight the battle in NC, GA,AZ and TX. That doesn’t bode well for him. He is gonna end up
Losing in 2/4 of those.

Wow, what an incredibly racist statement. I guess Hispanics are only valuable for construction, according to you.

Nope, not at all. But they are THE ONES WILLING TO WORK HARD IN CONSTRUCTION. America is lucky to find such hardworking people. They are unlucky not to have come from better background BUT their kids surely fare better.

I don't think the OP understands the definition of the word 'optimism'.

They care about jobs and healthcare. Trump's idiotic tariifs will hurt the auot industry and kill him here.

I love when someone comes on and tries to speak for an entire state. Really adds a lot to the conversation.

I have a lot of friends still there (I graduated from U of M) and I assure you there are most certainly people that care about immigration on the pleasant peninsula. And plenty of Trump supporters.

Did any of your friends give Amash a standing ovation?

Trump only win Michigan by 11k votes. I’m guessing he will lose by way more than 11k next time around.

Particularly once his Mexican tariffs cause automakers to slow/halt production and lay off workers.

I do think the OP understands that it is a thread though. A thin strand that is pretty weak.

They not only pretend to speak for entire states, but also for the country as a whole. Talk about hubris. They don’t speak for me and certainly not for millions of other Americans.

It is The loser who barely won the EC and his cult can who make broad claims about winning 2020, when he is actually 3 million votes in deficit with avg approval below 43%. The dems riding a 2018 wave can be very much more confident about a man who is hated by minorities, women, college educated people and younger generation. Talk about the hubris when his approval has crashed in every single state, especially in the midwest and EVEN IN AZ....

Jeez even in Florida - where I live - he's -2 according to MC. Michigan is -10. D*mn.

As I've said a thousand time - I was so shocked by 2016, even though I do understand probabilities and did not believe the prognosticators who said Trump had no chance, that I refuse to get cocky in the least about 2020. But I take some glimmer of home from these dismal approval ratings.

I am the PP and I have proof: newly elected Democratic governor, attorney general and secretary of state, sweeping out the Rs.

If Michigan weren't so gerrymandered we would have taken the house and senate too. But a ballot initiative that passed handily means we will be taking care of that, too.

This is proof that no one in Michigan is concerned with immigration? Seriously?

Based on the interactions on the thread the following can be deduced:
There are five types of Republican Trump lovers:
1) The tax cut cons - they are busy, wealthy, upper middle income people. Some of them maybe on DCUM but they are a small number. They are not as interested in religious or cultural aspects, thought there are overlapping interests. They are against universal healthcare, free college education or welfare. These are the pseudo free market people, THEY WANT FREE MARKET but want the government to save them from their greed, as happened in 2008.

2) Libertarian Cons - They want zero involvement of state except when it comes to SS, medicare and any other benefits they accrue. They are hypocrites who want to cut "other people's" benefits but not theirs, even if it is government funded. They also want a non-intrusive foreign policy and want to cut defense budget.

3)Neo cons- these are a tiny number, more in foreign policy circles than real people.

4) The religious cons(rel cons) - They care primarily about abortion and christian issues. They could also be motivated by cultural aspects, especially non-christian immigration. Some of them are very anti-muslim and anti-jewish as well. They are happy with the supreme justices and thats all that matters to them. But in the long run they are frustrated that they are impotent in stopping gay marriage or the perennial wins of progressives. They are against science, so they are gonna end up on the wrong side of history all the time.

5) The cultural cons(cult cons) - These are the Immigration as primary issue trumpsters. They may not be directly affected by immigration(they claim they oppose only illegal but for many of them want a blanket cut in non-white immigration) but fear the rising non-white population and feel white, protestant(not as important anymore) Anglo-saxon culture is under attack. They grudgingly accept the domination of Asians in engineering, professional, business management and research. So they use this as a facade to say they aren't threatened by LEGAL immigration or Indian Americans winning spelling or becoming CEOs or becoming startup founders. They would love all of that success to be coming from whites, but if not, Asians are OK. These people are the back bone of Trumpism. They feel liberated from quiet dog whistles and are enabled by Trump and his more direct racism.

The problem for them is with a declining population Europe doesn't provide white immigrants anymore. So they grudgingly accept Asians but want to stop Hispanics and blacks. They don't get that America is a majority minority country already if they count only the less than 40 population. Sooner rather later they will be phasing themselves out and thats when A New America is gonna be born, with fewer cult cons, rel cons and tax cut cons without power. I feel 2020 is gonna herald the new era. Trump was just the dead cat bounce.

More on this, Read Conservative Max Boot(ex editor WSJ) on issues faced by Republicans and how to destroy the GOP before reforming it. https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2018/10/destroy-the-republican-party-max-boot-calls-for-a-clean-start/

Not PP. But it is proof that atleast a majority in MI has turned its back on Master Troll Trommp.

Oh I get it. Now we’re moving the goalposts. PP got called on her blanket statement that “no one cares about immigration here”; now conveniently it's proof that a “majority” (could be minority - we have no proof of this statement) have turned their back on trump.

Nice job.

You've got a president who ran his own businesses into the ground and declared bankruptcy how many times? So instead of running businesses (because he can't), he licensed his name to businesses. Now his name is in the gutter so that's not working so great either. He's doing the same thing to the USA.

He's basically a liar and a con.

Forget the troll fellow Trump believer. Our Master is gonna bring Kilimnik back to post FB ads and Stone will help post hacked Sleepy Joe emails. And Mr. Trump will just ride into MI, tell nothing but the truth, demolish the fake news and WIN by atleast 10% in 2020. Plus we have the Australian channel rooting for Patriotic Americans.

Yup, the Dem circus hasn't even started, and already it doesn't look that promising.
