I agree in theory, but Einstein is already overcrowded as it is, and isn't getting an addition. They need to take neighborhoods out of the Einstein zone, not move them into it. |
| It is obvious what they will do, throw Woodward to the DCC and pair off some WJ neighborhoods. Those neighborhoods will get a new school and the DCC will get the hope of a opt out into a sort of western school in their consortium. |
| No way Woodward becomes part of DCC. Stop being a troll! |
Why not? It's one of the options. |
Because the WJ parents split off will riot. I suspect the troll caller hasn’t come to grips now that policy isn’t solely dictated by the Bethesda parents any longer. A few upset WJ parents is not going to resonate as much as if they take some of the few nice neighborhoods out of Einstein a few of the outlying WJ neighborhoods and create a new closed W. The DCC will be pissed (except the families moved out of Einstein who would be quite happy) and what was left at Einstein would fall off a cliff. There is no politically viable option but to make it part of the DCC and not take too many SFH areas out of Einstein while load balancing around it. Sorry WJ outliers (danger if you have a Kensington address) sell now if you care. |
| Yeah it really doesn't matter if the WJ parents riot. Holding up a sign that says "I don't want my kid to go to school with those kids" or "I didn't pay $800k to go to school with brown kids" is not going to generate much sympathy. The only reason these neighborhoods were able to maintain their jerrymandered exclusive zones in the past was that we didn't have the internet and no one was shining a light on them. |
I disagree that most Einstein families would be "quite happy" to be rezoned to Woodward. --Einstein Parent |
Agreed. It sounds like some of these parents want to send in George Wallace to block our kids from the door. |
|
Kensington/Einstein parent (and grandparent) here. This is a tightly knit community. We are not unhappy with our school *choices.* In fact, in our school we learn about racists and separate-but-equal folks, like the WJ people, apparently. Doesn't WJ teach this history, too?? Don't they recognize themselves? Maybe the education isn't so good there, after all.
The ultra liberals (just look at the signs in their yards!!) in Bethesda should jumping at the bit to get their kids in to browner/undocumented-populated schools. I left the Dem party years ago when i bought in to a truly mixed SES neighborhood and saw my hypocritical Dem friends run from it. |
I am going to call BS to this. Even for the small minority of Einstein parents that would resent being pulled out of their community element to a better but foreign new school, they would be ecstatic to have the “Einstein penalty” removed from their home’s price point. They would quickly get over missing their cluster’s book club meeting. Especially once they also realize that no matter how they draw Woodward’s boundaries it can’t help but draw from upstream demographics at least compared to Einstein’s, not that doing so would be hard considering what Einstein has. |
Nobody cares |
I hope that in real life, people have better sense than to assume a few comments on an anonymous message board (written by who knows who?) reflect the feelings of any school community. |
They should just rename Woodward George Wallace High School because of the ongoing segregation in this county. |
| Many posters are taking posts wrong way. It's clear that house prices are linked with test scores when it comes to WJ. Relating it with race and segregation is simply taking the focus away from OP's concern of house prices in WJ cluster going down. |
Or from owning the fact that their kids bring down test scores. While easy to blame others or history, it doesn't change the fact that they aren't keeping up. |
