You know this is Arlington when one of the major points is: CLIMATE IMPACT — CONFLICTS WITH ARLINGTON'S OWN CLIMATE ACTION PLAN Forcing 2,000+ families to drive to distant facilities adds ~4 million extra vehicle miles per year and ~1,600 tons of CO₂ annually. Per the EPA, that equals the annual carbon absorption of 1,600 acres of U.S. forest — nearly the size of Arlington's entire park system. Arlington County adopted a Climate Action Plan with a carbon neutrality goal, yet Ms. Rudolph's recommendation would erase the equivalent of a county-sized forest's worth of carbon absorption every year. I also like that the website seems like one of those seedy Whitehouse.gov subpages. |
Classic Arlington. I laughed out loud. Where in the facts does it address the fact they can’t hire the qualified staff (according to their standards of safety and risk tolerance) to run all these classes to meet demand. I did swipe through all the pages but am not reading every word. If it’s in there, I’d be interested to see it. |
It’s all so fantastic. They haven’t had APS to torture for a while. Gotta have a reason to wake up in the morning. |
DPR hasnt provided any data on this. Only their unspecific representations. So there was no data to respond to. The data website is responding to points where DPR provided information. |
So the main issue they say is the barrier to meeting demand and keeping the program afloat is not addressed? Their representations were not unspecific. They listed all the things they'd done to try to recruit more gymnastics instructors and they said rather specifically this was the problem and it was region wide and then people on this thread have confirmed it. |
They started an adult program and did not recruit any of the adults. They said they had the parent associations post the jobs. They did not beyond the high level manager positions. They required 4 years of gymnastics experience to teach toddlers (not necessary). They would take 6 months to process hire paperwork. Yes it is hard to find coaches and yes they made it harder then it has to be |
This is just he said/she said crap and a particular spin. I hope the Board members are going to DPR staff and getting actual facts. |

Competitive gymnastics is back, now with increased fees to get it closer to cost recovery.
https://www.arlnow.com/2026/04/20/fees-for-county-gymnastics-programs-increase-44-in-revised-budget-proposal/ And predictably, the boosters have found an abundance of private options which are allegedly cheaper. Wonder where those options were when the county planned to shut the program down? |
|
We will pay increased fees! Whatever it takes, oh you meant that much? Later! We meant later!
Of course private options are cheaper. Government labor is a lot more expensive. The whole thing is unsurprising and still disappointing. The county board is lame. |

"Instead of increasing by 44%, fees will rise by 25% in the coming year. It still appears that the full 44% increase — or more — could come into effect next year. The eleventh-hour decision came after lobbying from supporters of the Arlington Aerials girls and Arlington Tigers boys gymnastics programs." 44 percent fees still get this program up to only an 86 percent recovery model. With a good number of non-Arlington residents enjoying the program. Unreal. |
