Super Bowl 59

The intellectual rap vibe might just not be for everyone. I don’t like country and I would probably skip some deep country music halftime.

They just do not appeal to a mass audience, and I don't think they are young kid friendly, when the super bowl should be a family friendly event. I don't want my 5 year old watching something so intertwined with rape and violence, and I don't need to listen to some guy's petty personal feud with another rapper and calling out pedophilia. Why is it so hard to understand that none of this is appealing? People just want to be entertained and by happy for that one night.

My 70 old parents don't watch much football and don't know anything about modern music but they thoroughly enjoyed Lady Gaga's halftime show a few years back. Ever since then, their reactions are pretty much wtf am I watching. And no, they are not white.

It was wonderful. That was the blackest Super Bowl half time ever. So incredibly wonderful. His lyrics are all protest and I LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT!

Guess what, white folks buy more hip hop than anyone. Sorry. You are out of touch my friend.

Well that didn’t happen - lotta boos and crude finger gestures towards his box window doe - despite Fix News continuing its propaganda about how well liked DT is

No those were saved for Taylor. DT is well liked, why he also won the popular vote. Nice try.

Trump and you are hated. Seriously read the room.

"clown car" at the beginning with the people coming out in red, white and blue

Samuel L Jackson as Uncle Sam chastising the black man for being too loud, noisy, and ghetto and praising him for being calm and quiet later on.

at one point there were only female dancers, all dressed in red. I think this was referencing handmaid's tale

Kendrick said "the revolution will be televised. But you picked the wrong guy"

"Turn off the TV"

The American flag was divided

at one point there were dancers in white laying on the floor like they had been shot. Almost looked like those chalk drawings on crime shows

It was the blackest half time show in history. It was brilliant!!!! Loved that Trump was there but I know he didn't understand any of it. OMG, Kendrick killed it! He was also petty AF with the Drake lyrics.

This one sucked, but there have been some really good ones going way back lol. Michael Jackson and Prince who really had talent. Lady Gaga was very good, but she can sing and act!

Gaga had the best performance yesterday (even though she wasn't doing halftime) and it wasn't even close.

True, still she was better than the Lamar fiasco.

That's b/c it was too much for your little brain.

Everything he did was slow beats or just rapping, which was not hitting it. No crowd hype except for "MINOR." Serena Williams came out but again, most people were over him by the time she made a hippity hop appearance. DJ Mustard just pranced around.

I felt very bad for Taylor Swift and so happy she took it like a champ while looking good doing it too.

Kendrick Lamar’s music has always had political and social commentary weaved in. I expected it was coming before he even came on stage.

Is this not incredibly obvious to everyone?

If you read the commentary, obviously not.

The crowd singing “A minor” sounds like there was at least one song that everyone enjoyed.

Did they find the commercials with bad words appealing? I was not happy to hear cursing during the ads. I didn’t expect it so I couldn’t mute it in time so my kids heard the words

The rap? Unless you know the words how would you have been able to follow? I didn’t hear any bad words for that performance. I had already sent my kids to bed anyway but I didn’t hear any bad words in the rapper’s performance …but I did hear cursing on the commercials while my kids were watching…I wish people were more upset about that then a rapper reciting words that they
couldn’t understand. The outrage is interesting and backwards in my opinion.

Love the way Kendrick’s music usually includes the “N” word. Great message for my kids; just great.

Really irrelevant he scrubbed the Superbowl show of the “N” word last night because every tween and teen in America is looking up his N-word songs on YouTube this morning.

Again - great message, NFL.

Are your kids also looking up the words grab them by….spoken by our very own President? Are you at all concerned about the wonderful role model that he is? Please. You are trying so hard to justify why you are mad about the show. Simply say you didn’t like it and move on. Bringing the whole “save the kids” argument regarding the ht show that was performed last night is just silly and a reach.

They were both booed for different reasons.

TS was a lifelong eagles fan prior to current relationship and was born in PA - she should have worn green and red. She was booed bc she was seen as a traitor.

Trump was booed because he has repeatedly dissed Philadelphia (even though he studied there) because they lean heavily democratic. His insults were nasty.

Fox News and its subsidiaries cut the booing from Trump’s entrance but people who were there said it was loud . They also said there was very little noise for the Chiefs compared to the Eagles

Does not degrade women?

How? You mean like Lil’ John, whose lyrics include “ ‘til all these females crawl! “ ?? Or the constant references to “bishes a money!” in rap?

BTW - Lil John’s Get Low was played at the DNC, but what evs. lol

Wow. This picture is so powerful, and immediately chokes me up. A divided country. I love art because you can find so much meaning in it. It can mean a lot of different things to different people.

What song was he performing during this? All I know about him is that he won a couple awards and that he’s accused Drake of not being black enough and liking minors. No idea of any of that is true or not, but it seems weird to be rapping about minors and beef within the black community while white people make comments about the imagery of black and white race relations. Isn’t his performance about black America and the black community?

Again, he did not win the popular vote. If he had it would be over 50% of the votes. He got 49.8%. The other three candidates together got the remaining 50.2% of votes.

Sure it was. Lol! If it was “fake crowd noise” then they should have added it with his other songs to make it sound like the crowd enjoyed them more. I personally only know that Not like us song and didn’t enjoy the other songs nearly as much. However, I still thought he had a really great performance and loved the visuals and SLJ.
