Clueless. This is not how it works. This is not how any of this works. |
Wow. Which schools are you speaking of? Do you not hang out with people that you know and have things in common with? Has it occurred to you to be welcoming to the military families? |
This person has no idea of the DOD/IC infrastructure in the region. There is DIA, NRO, The Pentagon, Ft. Belvoir, Ft. Myer, Bolling, Andrews, ONI, CIA, NGA, and Quantico here. Literally, anyone moving up through the ranks WILL do a tour in this area (It's literally tied directly to their career progression for their MOS/Designator). |
I'm not the PP, but these last responses are the sort of insular military response they are talking about. |
DP. It seems to me that FCPS does fine by military families but there’s still a legitimate discussion to be had as to whether military families living at Ft. Belvoir should effectively have pupil placement options not available to other non-military families. |
What is your objection? I think PP is the least we can do. It likely kept Ft Belvoir out of the boundary discussion when South County boundaries were being discussed. |
P.S. FCPS also gets big bucks for military kids in their schools. |
My objection is giving military families living at Ft. Belvoir special pupil placement options that are not available to civilian families. It does not seem necessary. |
So what? People living in Fairfax Station area may pay the county more in taxes but people living right off Route 1 but that doesn’t mean they get supplemental pupil placement options. |
It does mean that they aren't in bounds for MVHS though |
Okay. Then, you or your spouse can join the military and be deployed for a year or more at a time. You can pick up and move on short notice and have to leave your children's friends and schools to start all over. Some military are deployed multiple times. Then, you can get pupil placement for your child if you live on Fort Belvoir. |
Your post doesn’t really make much sense. People make different sacrifices and, while military service may be admirable, it’s not obvious it should be rewarded with pupil placement options denied others. |
The children of military parents do not have a choice in their parents profession. The children live with the disruptions that come from that service. They could very well have to live without a parent because that parent dies in a training accident or fighting to defend us in a time of war. I have no problem with their parents being allowed to have choices in what school their children attend. Members of the military are not paid what they deserve. The benefits that they are earn are poorly distributed and run. Those who serve for a long period of time suffer injuries, physically and mentally, even when they don’t see combat. Allowing those same service members the chance to choose a better school for their children is not granting them much. It doesn’t cost us anything, the same amount of money is spent per pupil. So no, I am not going to begrudge those parents the oppertunity to pick their child’s public school. |
Wow the military hate is real by the elitist trying to take care of their precious little ones. The elitists are the first to scream where’s the military when there’s a problem in their blue cities as evidenced by dc and the national guard right now. I suggest you go after the illegal population. They are the ones taxing our schools, social services and housing. |
Wow, watch out for your own hate and bias. (I'm in a military family). |
