I think FARMS income has been increased so that more people qualify. It also depends on the number of children in the family. But, it is very sad to see this. Yes, inflation is taking a serious toll on families. |
Langley 3%
Herndon 50% These two pyramids are right next to each other. |
So? The communities are distinct. The poor parts of Herndon are no where near the Langley lines. |
Number of enrolled students is kind of a meaningless number. % capacity is a far better indicator. Not all schools are built with the same capacity. |
Both Lewis and Mount Vernon are well below capacity and the smaller enrollment impacts both the variety of courses offered and the number of instances of those courses offered. It is not good. |
They need to eliminate IB at those schools. |
If they moved WS neighborhoods or a whole feeder at this point to Lewis, I would be absolutely SHOCKED beyond belief. Like knock me over with a feather shocked. |
Lake Braddock I can see. There are townhome and condo neighborhoods, and some of them are cheap rentals that house multiple families. You could have mom with 3 kids, and mom’s brother and his girlfriend, and grandma all in the same 3 bed TH. Also the regulations for qualifying for free school meals are less stringent than being under federal poverty level. |
I am thinking they are maid kids |
They are not. They already adjusted those boundaries years ago. There is other adjustments that can be made. |
MCLEAN has some section 8 housing in Falls Church area. Glen Apartment near Timberlane Elementary school |
I’m not sure that 2 1/2 miles constitutes ‘nowhere near’ boundary lines. |
Exactly. Langley’s borders should be changed to send some to Herndon and McLean’s border can be changed to send some to Langley to reduce MHS’s overcrowding. But rich Langley parents are too powerful. |
Yes. That will get you lots of brownie points. Send your kids to Herndon to help Herndon. Especially when Langley is not overcrowded and Herndon is full. That said, it does make sense to redistrict McLean students to Langley--but, then I live no where near there and don't understand the neighborhoods and traffic patterns. So, it is easy to say that. |
