Welcome to Lafayette!

I don't know any private driving services. If you're IB, you're not much more than a mile or 2 from school, and many of your neighbors will also be going to Lafayette. Can you arrange a carpool -- maybe your partner (if you have one) can drop off your kid and a neighbor in the morning, and the neighbor can pick them up? Or can you walk -- many kids, even the young ones walk or scooter to school.

If you're on Connecticut, you may want to take the bus. WMATA will show you the options here: http://www.wmata.com/rider_tools/tripplanner/tripplanner_form_solo.cfm

OP, if I were you I'd go to the open house and meet your kids classmates. I think you'll find a lot of people willing to carpool your kid for a month or so. Or people who walk who can pick your kid up. I also think you'll be fine to drive with the baby sooner than you know.

I've been amazed how generous people are in the 'hood, especially to those with new babies!

Thank you all for your replies. According to previous reply somebody will help for 1 or two months. In this period I will learn driving and take care of kids. Once again thanks a lot all of you.

Where on Conn will you be? It sounds like walking and/or the bus may actually be your best bet. If you are up by McKinely, just walk. If closer to Military, take the bus.

If your child will be in pre-k 4, you can't just have him hop in and out of an uber/taxi, you will almost certainly need an authorized person to pick him up and drop him off right at his classroom. Assuming you are in-bounds, I think you would just need to walk or use public transportation with your son and baby. Even November/December the weather is quite mild, and hopefully by then you will know your kid's classmates and maybe someone living nearby can help out.

Even in those months, there are only a handful of days when you couldn't take the bus. And on many of the worst days school will be closed for snow days. So if you can take the bus and have your partner's help when the baby is first born, you'll be fine.

The weather here in those months can be very mild. There may be a cold snap for a week or two, and snow for a week or two (during which school will be closed anyway) but the majority of days should be totally fine to be outside.

You should get a nanny to do this rather than a service.
