Voter discontent

According to the Pew Research Center (http://www.people-press.org/2016/07/07/2016-campaign-strong-interest-widespread-dissatisfaction/), the last time voters of either party were as discontented with their candidate was '92. The Republican voters that year had the same 40% satisfaction rate with GHW Bush as they have with Trump. Democratic voters have a 43% satisfaction rate with Hillary Clinton, but only had a 33% satisfaction rate with Bill Clinton back then. Amazingly, he won anyway -- with the help of Ross Perot.

I'm not sure what that tells us to expect this time, but it raises questions about the meme that these two are the most unpopular candidates in history

Pure speculation on my part: the difference from 1992 is the polarization. The strong supporters of both Trump and Hillary are not going to be swayed by anything. Trump's supporters are not swayed by his stupid comments and Hillary's supporters are not swayed by her "carelessness" on the job. Lots of the support either of them gets is rooted in dislike of the opposing candidate.

Because this is how it works:
The liberal socialist mindset is quite easy to see, it's called divide and conquer, pit one group against the other to further their cause and they will use race or wealth or anything else for that purpose to advance their agenda. Today, the black community is in total chaos from drug dependency, out of wedlock births, drive-bys and gang violence. Poverty and unemployment is through the roof and liberals know it is destructive and they have no intention of changing it, in fact they want to make it worse. Why would anybody support a party that gleefully supports such disastrous policies of self destruction? 25% of young black men are either in prison or awaiting sentencing and the number one cause of death for young black men is another young black male. Does this sound like progress to you? Of course it does, the Democrat Party has 98% of the black vote and that is all that matters.

It tells me that Clinton wins in a landslide. It also tells me that both candidates are disgusting and that I'm sitting this one out.

Bitter bitch alert

It's 100% correct.

I've posted this in number of threads, but it's a myth that Perot split the Republican vote. If you look at exit polling, the percentage of people who would have voted for Bush if Perot was not an option was exactly the same as the percentage of people who would have voted for Clinton if Perot was not an option. Given that, Clinton would have beat Bush even without Perot.

I have never been able to understand the incredible loyalty to a party that has had provided so little in return to a block of voters. The willingness to blindly follow and continue to support is beyond me.

I'm the PP and it can be traced back to LBJ who embraced the Civil Rights Act not on the premise of equal rights but on the benefit it would bring to the party.

That's wrong. He in fact embraced the CRA on the premise of equal rights, had been working on rights legislation since 1957 before he became VP and believed it was the right thing to do in spite of the harm it would do to the party. In fact, after signing the CRA LBJ said. “We have lost the South for a generation” Southern Democrats were opposed to the CRA.

That's a cynical and overly simplified view of LBJ's reasons for supporting CRA. He openly acknowledged that the CRA had lost the Democrats a huge portion of the country for decades after signing the bill. And it's an insult to LBJ's legacy not to recognize that he actually was a supporter of civil rights based on his own lived experiences.

Beyond that, to the PP, I suspect that black loyalty to the Democrats is at least as much a reaction to the almost openly racist rhetoric and policies supported by the Republicans for the past several decades...but maybe it's more sensible to assume they are just blind sheep. Of course the Democrats, including President Obama, could do more. But the Republican party has demonstrated what "doing less", and in many cases "doing the opposite", looks like.

Exactly. What he said about blacks - and how he would keep them voting Democrat for the next 200 years - is something I don't feel like repeating, even anonymously.

He also used the "n" word a lot. (In private, of course.) And don't tell me it was how people talked then. I was a kid in 1964, and if I ever used that word, I wouldn't have been able to sit down for a year.

Really? Wow, where did you live? I was a teen in the 60's and saw the white only fountains, racial division on transportation, in restaurants and such and the N word was common.

As for LBJ saying that 200 year quote...prove it. Just because Kessler said he uttered that doesn't mean he in fact did. But it is a fact he said what he did about losing the south. So, I will go with the latter and understand that is born out by facts and it's diametrically the opposite of the other.
