Is School for Tomorrow Closed Down

Let me know. They never answer the phone and I heard they have closed and all the staff has been layed off.

Well, those are pretty dire signs.

What school is this?

In Reston, near the new metro? I was actually in that area yesterday and saw a sign by the side of the road and wondered "hmm..what is this school?"... Sign was still up, so they could be still open. There was a power outage in that part of Reston yesterday AM if you tried to call yesterday and got no answer, that could be why.

I've been calling the Silver Spring location.

I heard the Silver Spring campus is closing/already closed but they are still in Virginia.

Yes, Silver Spring location is closing. I believe the board of directors is attending to remaining issues such as transcripts, but other services are likely unavailable as there is not building staff.

So the Virginia location is staying open?

I feel terrible for the students and families who no longer have a school. I wonder which families paid deposits or more for Fall enrollment and will not get it back?

Do you know that they aren't getting deposits back?

Does anyone know what happened? Was there just not enough enrollment?

I met with Alan Shusterman once and was very impressed by him as an educator.

He is a lawyer, not an educator.

Everyone got their deposits and full pay tuition back. The school ran out of money because it was mismanaged but the head of school who had no idea what he was doing.

Yes, the school is closed. We know someone who was hired for staff and fired before they began. We also know students who came to our school last year from there and they had terrible things to say about it: lack of formal curriculum, well-meaning people or brand-new teachers hired as teachers who were not supported by the administration, revolving door of staff, lack of consistent discipline at the school which made it difficult for students who wanted to be in school vs. those who were disruptive. Not a good situation which also led to under enrollment.

What school are you with?
