You rarely hear "Donald vs Clinton", "Clinton vs Donald", or "who will win, Clinton or Don"?
If Clinton was President when the ACA was passed, would we be calling it "HillaryCare" instead of "ObamaCare"? And FYI, I'm a man. I don't think people are doing this on purpose but I do believe it has the effect of lowering her status by not calling her by her last name which is generally considered more respectful. |
I think many are. |

For a long time saying "Clinton" caused confusion, so she's entered the public consciousness as "Hillary". He was the famous one, not her. And I call him "The Donald", but he's mostly entered the public consciousness as "Trump" because that's what how he plasters his name across the universe.
There is not a lot of subtext or subtlety in this election. People who support one will not be turned towards the other by head games. The only undecideds out there hate both of them, and are praying for that meteor to come down and give us option number three. People don't diminish her because she's female, they diminish her because she's ethically challenged, to put it kindly. (I prefer "grifter") But given her likely opponent, I have to vote for her, which absolutely disgusts me. But the female thing is not even a tiny factor. I hated Bubba, too. |
| I agree, OP. But when I hear "Clinton," I think Bill. HRC or Hillary Clinton or Hillary Rodham Clinton are better word choices. |
| Hillary has branded herself "Hillary". |
When Bush ran, there was no confusion there or anyone saying they think of his dad and he had the same first and last names! |
I get your point, but in this case I believe it may just confuse the issue by allowing the first Clinton (Bill) to overshadow his wife. When I think of Clinton (and I'm a woman), I think of Bill first. |

I'm ok with it. Hillary has been calling herself Hillary for some time. It's just to distinguish from Bill.
For instance, on her website:
|
That's because his dad was super old and had peaced out of the public eye. Plus, where do you think the nicknames HW and Dubyah come from?! |
|
People always said "George Bush the Dad"
Somehow I think "Clinton the Wife" would get your boxers, or panties, in a wad OP even more. Besides, she markets herself as Hillary because she wants to use being a woman to her advantage. |
This. Next topic... |
People called him "W" a lot to distinguish him from his father. |
Exactly. |
Not entirely true. Bush the Younger used the nickname "W" in his campaign materials to distinguish himself. |
Yup. She has embraced it as her own. Just like Obama has embraced Obamacare as his own. Others may have used them as pejoratives but they've been taken over in a positive way. |
