Started watching Sex and the City a few weeks ago and am on season 4 now. Aidan bought Carrie a laptop and she blows up on him about how she wanted her broken laptop instead and how he should be happy he has the keys to her apartment. It's like, girl, chill. Is it just me or does she do this kind of thing a lot, oscillating from overly-attached-girlfriend to non-committed-psycho? |
Carrie was definitely annoying at times but a lot of her dysfunctional behavior with men was explained for me in an episode where she mentions that her father abandoned her when she was 5.One of the reasons I refused to watch the prequel series was that it totally changed that key part of the Carrie's backstory which, IMO, largely contributed to the character being who she is. |
I didn't know there was a prequel! When did that come out/what's it called? |
It only lasted two seasons on the CW. The Carrie Diaries. I liked it. |
I liked the character he first two seasons but by the end she was super annoying an self-absorbed. |
I found everyone on that show annoying. Unwatchable. |
They were all so neurotic, slept with people for dumb reasons, and had ridiculous spending habits.
But somehow I love the show! |
the 90s? Janice from Friends, everyone on Boy Meets World, everyone on Full House (but mostly Uncle Joey), Fresh Prince, 90210, Newman from Seinfeld. I think there are lots that are more annoying than Carrie. |

Oh, it's a great show (so far!), and I agree about the neurotic part. A few episodes ago Miranda was ordering Chinese and the takeout girl giggled and MIRANDA HAS A HUGE MELTDOWN. Like, she marched all the way over to the Chinese restaurant to tell that little bitch off because HOW DARE THAT GIRL LAUGH AT MIRANDA ORDERING FOR HERSELF. In the end, it turned out that the girl was just giggling because that's just her thing. The huffy-and-puffy walk to tell some poor takeout girl off was a HUGE overreaction, IMO. Another addition to your list -- did Carrie's wardrobe seem ridiculous to anyone else? Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte seemed to have styles that were fitting for the times, but not outrageous; Carrie's outfits were often comical, looking like something put together by a person who'd never seen haute couture but imagined that it's what the style looked like. |
Hated the 5th and 6th seasons. She was beyond awful. |
Never seen Boy Meets World, Fresh Prince, 90210 or Seinfeld; Janice wasn't that bad b/c she came and went in small doses. Uncle Joey was the worst! The pull-my-finger and the chipmunk thing were the definition of unfunny. I got the impression that he was closeted several times watching the show. |
I did not enjoy Carrie the Cheater. That was the worst Carrie. |
+1 Also the fact that she supposed to be annoying somehow makes her less grating as a character. |
I love Janice! "Night night, Bing-a-ling." |
