| Any idea if those IB for Lafayette PK4 will get a spot. I am surprised we are still on the WL as I was told they are opening another PK class in the Fall. 5 instead of 4 sections. We live IB and wondering at what point we will start to see some movement. Ideas? |
| I don't know. Dr. B said there were 50+ IB kids on the waitlist this spring. That's a lot! |
| I'd call and ask. |
| Why are they opening another pk classroom? The new school is going to be overcrowded before they even move back in. |
they had only 4 PK classes before but 5 classes for K-5. Now they'll have 5 classes for each grade. |
|
Or maybe 6? Many times a whole new slew of kids that live in bounds come for K but not PK. Adding a 5th PK pretty much guarantees a 6th K-5.
I guess they figured if they have the room - fill it in? |
Right, but they already have less slots for PKs than for K just in class size number. I can't believe dozens of extra 5 year olds will show up this fall. I think it's more of a case of more options for 4 year olds. |
Well, if they don't fill the class with IB kids, that will lead to more oob which isn't helping the overcrowding Deal/Wilson issue. Ridiculous. |
The idea is to meet the demand already in existence IB. Also, they are holding off additional OOB students till they see what the demand will be overall. |
np. Not sure about that line of thinking. Several years ago, my dc got into PK4 as #30 on the waitlist and we were OOB with sibling preference. It was a last minute call but they had worked their way through the IB families before getting to us. Maybe inbounds demand has increased in the last few years. |
It has. Hence OP's concern. This has nothing to do with OOB students. |
| Plus Lafayette will likely see more IB students from the new boundary, and those who used to be IB for Murch with the option of switching to the new boundary school, who will switch to avoid construction. Capacity of the new building is 805 and last year's enrollment was under 700. Should work out fine. |
|
Plus IB students are more likely to accept a spot in April than at the end of the summer when they are committed to paying private preschool tuition.
From talking to Dr. B, I would not expect the PK waiting list to move much. Virtually all of the families originally accepted registered. |
| Lafayette staff are at Deal for the summer while construction being completed. I suggest going over there and asking someone in administration what is going on. |
Calling seems easier than going over there. Phone number is the same. |
