Exercise while TTC?

Anonymous
I have read that exercise is beneficial for overweight women, and that a BMI between 19 and 24 is optimal for conceiving. For those who are at a healthy BMI, how much exercise are you doing right now. I have been TTC since September and quit running and weight training a few months in thinking I might increase my odds that way. This month I am back to running and weight training since stopping exercise clearly was not the magic bullet. Now I am hoping exercise will be good wince it stimulates blood flow. What are you ladies doing?

My BMI is 20 and I've always been an avid exerciser. I've had two pregnancies (1 healthy child, 1 miscarriage that had nothing to do with my activity levels) and have never changed what I was doing while TTC. I think hard exercise only impacts your ability to conceive if you are working out so much that you are underweight and no longer getting a period. Sounds like exercise is probably not the issue for you. I see a lot of ladies on here suggest going straight to an RE if you've been trying for a while with no results. It can take a a few months to get an appointment with an RE so you might as well try to set up an appointment for the fall and cancel it if you end up pregnant before then. Good luck!

PP here. Guess I should specify how much/what kind of exercise I've done. Before having my first child, I worked out about 5 times a week with it being a mix of boot-camp type classes at the gym, spin class, weights, and running for 45-60 min per session. I have less time now but leading up to my second pregnancy I was doing the same stuff, but more like 3 times a week.

Unless you are missing periods or underweight (or overweight but it sounds like that's not the case), don't worry about it. Make a decision about whether to exercise for other reasons.
