This is simply unbelievable.
Its like everyone is just accepting this without even trying to change it. |
Because it's a difference of a million plus votes! |
Parliament could take up a vote if they wanted to because the popular referendum wasn't binding. But it looks as if the UK is going to respect the will of the people. |
That is not in the economic best interest of the people. SO why do that? |
The "people" are so stupid. |
Or your stupid, probably more likely. Why do you think you have a right to pass judgement on people in England and what they want for their lives and their families? It is their will, the "remain" vote lost, and, we should do as Prime Minister Cameron did, respect it and not judge it. It's call the "will of the people" and even though you might see it as a split vote, it did pass by more than one million with the highest turnouts, this is what they wanted. Any not one of us knows how this will effect their future, not one of us. |
The "people" have been ignored, mocked, and left behind by the "elites", who have rigged the economic system in their own favor and imposed their social mores. So the people may be stupid, but so are the elites, who failed to take the interests and beliefs of the people into account. Hence the bite in the arse that the people delivered to the elite yesterday. |
Yes let's invade and show them the errors of their ways....stupid people. This is what happens when you let the poor vote. We need to protect them from themselves. If Hillary wins bet the red state will want to leave the union...LOL |
I don't think the count itself was a big issue--seems like it was completed quickly and with proper security and technology. The final margin is large enough that a recount would almost undoubtedly return the same results.
Just because one disagrees with the outcome does not imply that a costly recount is the proper course of action. |
So let them come to realize it themselves then. To go back on the promise to let the people decide would only cause more anger. Clearly the move to hold a referendum (and to not have a higher threshold than simple majority) was a major miscalculation on Cameron's part, but what's done is done. |
Wow, imposed social mores? Isn't it a little early to be hitting the drink? |
I wonder how many posters who say this is "so bad" have been backing an anti-NAFTA, anti-TPP candidate? |
Is this true? Can you provide a cite? |
"A Brexit vote is not legally binding, and there are a few ways it could theoretically be blocked or overturned. However, as the BBC notes, "it would be seen as political suicide to go against the will of the people as expressed in a referendum." http://www.vox.com/2016/6/23/12021222/brexit-what-happens-next |
I have read and/or heard that a significant number of voters voted to leave as a protest, not expecting or desiring Brexit. There are also large segments of their society, such as Scotland, Northern Ireland, and young people, who strongly oppose Brexit. Suppose polling shows that after the reality of the result sts in, the majority is actually opposed, might it not become far less "suicidal" for Parliament to overrule the referendum? |
