Hello!

Decided on PEW for my DD entering K in August. Still have a few reservations, would love to read any new feedback on the school and possible afterschool programs in the area.

Excellent program, but there were still a few kinks that were being worked it this past school year. The program includes Kg, 1st, and 2nd next year. The program isn’t a good fit for every child, some kids are not coming back for the 1st grade. The Assistant Principal, Ms. Quinones is awesome and the Spanish Immersion teachers really want to see the kids succeed. There will be a new Principal next school year and the PTO really does an outstanding job.

Thank you for your helpful feedback! Do you mind elaborating on the types of kinks you are referring to? Why do you think some children suceed and other don't?

Will the new princiapl be exclusively over the Immersion program or the entire school? Do you know of any local aftercare programs that have assisted the immersion students during this transition?
Thanks again!!

The main kink that I am referring to the communication flow between the administration and parents. Finding out at the last minute about various things or not finding out at all. Towards the end of the school year, the lines got a lot better. I can’t speculate about why some children don’t fit into the program, while others do, because each child is unique and have motivators that differ. The number one problem that I observed was kids who were not well-behaved and had various issues when it came to behavior. Seemed liked they were at least 2-3 of those kids in every class. Next year, there is supposed to be a para in each class which is significant, since the teacher will have more time to teach and will have help to deal with the other classroom issues. The new Principal will be for the entire school.

Hi all,

I'm another mom that enrolled my child for K beginning in August. I've spoken to a few other parents that have children here and so far the feedback has been positive. To the poster looking for an afterschool program - try CGR..they have locations in both Bowie and Largo. Another option we are considering is a private tutor for our child.
