Moved in and former homeowners had installed a really nice Miele dishwasher. Friends have mentioned to us that sometimes repairing a Miele is almost as expensive as just getting a brand new one installed.
So we are wondering if we should get another Miele dishwasher or try another one? We had loved how quiet the Miele was and how well it washed the dishes. FWIW, we also have the wood panel in front so not sure if this limits our ability to pick another brand/model? Thanks in advance for your suggestions. |
| OP again. For those who have owned a Miele, or similar, can you give a ball park figure of how much it might run of the replacement? |
| Mine is going on 10 years- no repairs. I would buy another one in a heartbeat. |

I've contemplated replacing our current Miele with a Bosch because I hate it and loved our Bosch. But when I've seen this come up before, 50% of people thought Miele were amazing and hated Bosch, and the other thought the exact opposite. So if you've used it and loved it, I'd stick with what you like. . .
Mieles have a huge price range, from under $1000 to several thousand, so replacement depends on model. |
| We just replaced our builder grade dishwasher with a Bosch 800 series dishwasher. First, my best friend and his wife had replace their dishwasher last year and they loved their Bosch. There were several features that we liked about the Bosch. We spent a couple of weekends reviewing a number of dishwashers including Kitchenaids, Bosch, and Miele. We reviewed on-line including Consumer Reports and a number of other sites. We went to several stores to look for models that we had found on-line. After a couple of weekends studying until our eyes were crossed and the numbers started to run together we opted for the Bosch. We had owned a Miele vacuum cleaner that was a good unit, but repairs, replacement parts and accessories were very expensive and hard to find, even on-line. The replacement bags and filters cost an arm and a leg. It is so very hard to find anyone that can service the darn thing. We finally decided that the accessibility of replacement parts and repair services for an appliance we expected to have at least 10 years was worth picking the Bosch over the KitchenAid and the Miele. We also felt that some of the extra features that we got in the Bosch fit our family and usage patterns much better. |
Thank you for this. What model did you end up getting? |
I'm curious too. We need all new appliances for a new house and I am overwhelmed trying to research everything. I just want model numbers of proven appliances!

Not PP, but we bought this about two months ago: Miele G6165SCVi SF (w/Cutlery Tray) Futura Crystal, Pre-Finished, Fully-Integrated. Base price was $1399; total price was $1770. It's not silent, but it's a huge improvement over our old Bosch, which made an incredible racket and broke down several times over the nine years we had it. I didn't really pay attention to any particular features when purchasing, but I do like the flatware tray. It seems to make both loading and unloading less unpleasant.
I didn't do much research--one morning online was my limit--but gleaned that Miele machines are better made but more expensive/difficult to repair when they break. They also seem to be slightly more expensive. Bosch had more models at lower price points. Bosch still has the reputation of having the quietest machines out there. If I were new to both brands, I would probably have picked a Bosch, but the resentment I'd built up over time to our Bosch led me to Miele. We can't all be rational all of the time. We've been happy with the Miele so far. |

Too funny!
My $600 GE dishwasher has been going for 10 years. Not a single problem. |
| We love our Miele. Totally reliable. Totally quiet. Our Miele washer and dryer are equally fabulous. Not as thrilled with our Miele convection oven. It looks fabulous and it cooks beautifully, but it is an absolute bit-- to clean. It has many many stains inside that are impossible to get out. They have switched the interiors out for baked enamel and we might replace it (while it is still working and relatively new) for one of these in the hopes it can be cleaned at all. I would never dissuade you from going with the dishwasher. It is a workhorse. Worth the money, if you have the money. |
| I was just replaced 10-year-old Miele. Like you, I have a panel over it to match the cabinetry. The installers were not willing to guarantee that it would be an exact fit with the panel, but it turned out that it fit without any gap. The machine is so quiet and cleans the dishes well. |
My $1400 kitchen aid keeps rotting out from the inside. We have little bb's falling out everywhere as the tracks on the sides that hold the dish trays disintegrate every few years. Also it has thus fun feature where it just stops having any power at all and you have to take it apart to unplug a plug from the board, wait z few minutes and then plug it back in. It's a known problem but the company didn't tell me about it when I called they just sent a tech out who charged us $175 to plug and unplug it. They didn't fix it, just plugged if back in and left. |
I hate the look of wood panels over the dishwasher and fridge. Do people still put those in? |

We have the futura Classic which cost 1300. Had one problem so far and that was fixed by using the manual. It was a drain error. It cleans well and it's silent. It takes a log time to run but so does a Bosch. We have had ours for 4 years. My sister has a Bosch and it leaks here and there.
What I love: separate tray for utensils and silverware, you can double stack mugs, the large capacity. What I'm not a fan of: the fact that even though it has a fan, it doesn't dry well (we have a baby so a lot of plastic bottle and pump parts) and the cycle length |
NP. What do you mean about double stacking mugs? You can put one directly on top of another or is there some kind of insert? |
