Does anyone know whether Fairfax county is considering this and moving away from the center model for AAP?

It has already happened in much of the county. Yes in the areas where school have large numbers of AAP. No in areas where schools do not have enough students the qualify for AAP to sustain one classroom.

This. No need for separate school and busing in many areas.

Is Irving now a center (for only Irving students) the way that Cooper now is? Or is it a LLIV only, a situation in which students still have the choice to attend LB or IMS?

Which middle schools now have LLIV?

Cooper (soon to be a center of Cooper students only)
Franklin
Irving

Which others?

Irving LIV kids can choose to stay or go to LB.

Thanks. So that is the same way Franklin is. Students may choose to go to Carson or stay at Franklin for Local Level IV.

Are there other middle schools, besides Irving and Franklin, that also have Local Level IV? Not including Cooper?

LLIV for now.

More kids with a choice between the two are choosing Irving. Irving's program is very good and the teachers are outstanding.

That's great. I am glad to hear that Irving has a strong team of AAP teachers.

I believe that's been the case at Cooper and Franklin as well. The AAP teachers at both of those schools are also very highly regarded and have done a great job. I only have direct & personal experience with one of those schools, but have read extremely positive reviews here of the other school as well. It seems that both principals have chosen a strong team of teachers which I am sure is what has made those programs so strong.

We are in a lower performing pyramid, so this is worrisome. I do not think they could fill a class with local level IV students at our school. Is this a county wide thing?

There are portions of the county which will likely always have a Level IV Center option. The 2015 AAPAC report does a good job of highlighting the differences across the county. See:
