DP. I honestly can think of very few people at that level of wealth, privilege, and fame (through very little of their own merit) who nevertheless frequently publicly complain about how tough their life is and how others have mistreated them. But maybe we can crowdsource it. Can anyone think of anybody? (And please don’t make this political; this is the entertainment forum.)

DP. I'm not huge fans of Harry and Meghan but I've not heard them say how tough their life is. I've heard them talk about how difficult aspects of their lives are but not their whole lives - and that's fair. No matter our privilege or blessings, we are entitled to lament areas could be better. Everyone does it. I've also heard M&H talk about how privileged their lives are as well.

But, you asked for examples: How about Paris Hilton, the Kardashians, Prince Charles (although not lately), Sean Penn, Britney Spears....here are some quotes from celebrities that seem to fit the H&M situation:

Megan Fox
“I don’t think people understand. They all think we should shut the f@ck up and stop complaining because you live in a big house or you drive a Bentley. So your life must be so great. What people don’t realize is that fame, whatever your worst experience in high school, when you were being bullied by those ten kids in high school, fame is that, but on a global scale, where you’re being bullied by millions of people constantly … Not everyone understands that that’s the deal.” – Esquire, February 2013

Jennifer Lawrence
“I teeter on seeming ungrateful when I talk about this, but I’m kind of going through a meltdown about it lately. All of a sudden the entire world feels entitled to know everything about me, including what I’m doing on my weekends when I’m spending time with my nephew. And I don’t have the right to say, ‘I’m with my family.’ … If I were just your average 23-year-old girl, and I called the police to say that there were strange men sleeping on my lawn and following me to Starbucks, they would leap into action. But because I am a famous person, well, sorry, ma’am, there’s nothing we can do. It makes no sense … I am just not OK with it. It’s as simple as that. I am just a normal girl and a human being, and I haven’t been in this long enough to feel like this is my new normal. I’m not going to find peace with it.” – Vogue, September 2013

Unlike those celebs, Harry was born famous. He’s been groomed to navigate fame from the start. And his wife aggressively sought fame. Nonetheless, they continue to whine about privacy when what they actually want is to avoid any criticism. They want the platform and media attention…they just don’t want any critics.

Yep. Megan Fox and Jennifer Lawrence mostly got where they are on their own merits, not riding family coattails. That’s one big way in which they are different from H&M. Spears is mentally ill, so that a significant difference. If I hear Prince Charles publicly complain about how tough his life is, I’ll criticize him for it too.

And I know by writing that out I rose the blood pressure of the keyboard warriors who no doubt are furiously typing away as soon as they finish reading this comment, but I think it's true. Obviously very different people and very different situations, but also some undeniable parallels. It'll make for an amazing season of The Crown one day... and I'm only half-joking.

I agree. It is not a surprise Harry was attracted to someone as dramatic and chaotic as his mother. Unfortunately, Meghan is also incapable of loving anyone other than herself.

You know absolutely, positively, nothing about this woman except what you read in the media yet have the audacity to say she is incapable of loving anyone other than herself. What a ridiculous thing to say about someone you don’t know, even someone in the public eye. I wouldn’t even say that about Donald Trump or Derek Chauvin. You guys really need to check yourselves and why you hate this woman so much. What is it about her that would drive you to say such a thing about someone you don’t know and never will? It’s not normal. Even on an anonymous forum.

DP. Calm down. This is an entertainment forum. If you visit here, you will see gossip about famous people none of us know. That’s how it works.

The claim that Meghan is incapable of loving anyone but herself (and claimed decisively, as fact) is not gossip. And if you think it is, than I'm sorry for the rest of the people in your life Regina George.

I don't think it is hatred - it is the realization that everything that M & H do is a microcosm of what rich entitled people do writ large. They do it badly and it is insulting. The foundations that collect 90% for overhead with little going to actual charity, the victim act when you are millionaires, the PR leaks, the flip-flopping lies that the media covers for, flying private jets while preaching about the environment and on and on and on. Nobody likes hypocrites and it's not just Meghan that is annoying, it is Harry too.

DP. But that’s not the real explanation because they certainly are not the only rich people to do that nor are they the worst offenders. Yet they’re the only ones with multiple 300+ threads on how much they suck.

Not true - see Trump fashion mishaps, Hilaria Baldwin at it again etc... threads. These two are highly visible and they pull the same shenanigans but they are really bad at it. Subjective at best as to who the worst offenders are but when you have a rarity like a Royal Prince moaning about his poverty during a pandemic that's more than a little off-putting no? Rich people are not in the same class as Royalty which is why it is ever so much more grating.

^Agree. Plus the fact they decided to purposely live here in the U.S. and still make a fuss about being "royal" and what their titles are. None of that sits well with the vast majority of Americans.

Since Meghan's uncle Mike has just passed do we think she will send a wreath of locally sourced flowers which have special meaning and an artisanal linen papyrus hand calligraphed note a la Prince Phillip?

The Uncle who publicly talked crap about her for the press? That uncle? In her position, I’d order some nice flowers and forego anything beyond a very simple note. Perhaps she has some happy, earlier memories that she’d like to honor though.

Nobody cares what you would do.

The reality is whatever she does will be scrutinized.

She has to send a lovely yet not pretentious arrangement. And, she has to simply sign it as Meghan.

Is this the uncle that pretty much insinuated she is an uppity negro?

2 way street babe. Philip was pretty much on his deathbed when the Markles trash talked the Royals.

Very considerate of them to put their grandma through that.

Busy public week for the Cambridges.

I am surprised Meghan hasn't made a peep yet.

Is this the uncle that got her the internship with the State dept in Argentina or is that another uncle? What did this uncle specifically say?

He said she is underclass and trying to rise beyond the reality of her situation.
