Our cleaning lady charges $125 each visit and we have her every two weeks. I am starting to feel like it would make my life so much better if she came every week. Something about that second week between visits.. our house turns into a sh*thole. I can't stay on top of everything- I work a lot, my husband works a lot, we have a preschooler who makes such a mess, I'm pregnant. It's not even just the putting things away, more that I feel like the house has to be actually CLEANED once a week. I am so much happier in the days after the cleaning lady comes.
Just wondering what kind of HHI you would have to have to justify spending $500/mo on a cleaning lady. Actually, as I just typed that, I realized that there's no way I can justify spending so much per month. But man it would make me so much happier. |
| Honestly I think this is one of the areas where money can make you happy. Like, if there is something that irritates you that much and you can pay to make it go away, why not? It's not like you have every luxury, but picking and choosing a few is reasonable if you can afford it. |

We make 110K and outsource nothing.
Most of friends make more and do have weekly cleaning ladies. |
| OP: the problem is that a lot of things make me happy. Like weekly drybar visits, biweekly nail appointments, lattes every morning at starbucks, lots of vacations.... #iwantitall |
OP: You would seriously spend $500/mo on a cleaning lady at a HHI of 200k? Do you have kids? |
|
When I was married and we had a HHI income of about 225K, I felt I couldn't justify weekly, either. My friends in this area whose HHIs are around or above 300K do weekly.
My friends and family who still live where I grew up, where the COL is low and commutes are short, and who have HHIs more in the 150-175K range, think people who spend money on cleaning people are nuts. |
If it took a huge burden off my shoulders, absolutely. |
| $500k? Idk, we're at $300 hhi and I don't see us upping our frequency. But I don't like prepping for the cleaners so every other week is fine for me. I'd probably do a meal prep/delivery service first. Hate cooking. |

Do you remember paying that much to go out each month in your twenties (including the constant new outfits and/or shoes, bar tab, late night food with the girls, the make up drawer, the fancy underwear, waxing, the mani pedi, a regular hairdresser appointment...etc.)? I didn't make then what I make now and wouldn't dare waste the money I (happily!!!) wasted then. The numbers may have been different, but the idea of spending on your own happiness remains. What level of bliss would it bring? Where else could you cut back to make yourself feel better about it? Could you negotiate a lower rate for increased frequency (most agencies have this deal)? I short myself on ev.er.y.thing. But I want a Roomba, dammit. So, there my money goes!!! |
| We pay a cleaning person $80 a time. Why are the weekly charges so high? |
| 150k |
Unfortunately.... I still basically spend all of the above. Swap out the bar tab and late night food with the girls for takeout. Add the THOUSANDS I spend on my child every month. Reading through these posts and thinking about it.. yes, we can afford it. But I probably need to start making better choices. Ugh. I hate being an adult sometimes. |
Really? How big is your house? |
|
We used to do every other week for years. A year ago I went to every week and now I don't know how I got by before.
We make around $400k. |
