If your kids are in an at-home daycare

Anonymous
Hi,

I posted this in general before I realized there's a daycare forum.

Just wondering how much you pay per week to your daycare provider if they are working out of their home. We're looking to go this route (in Rockville area) and would love to know the prices to see if it would fit in our budget before calling around for availability.

Thanks!

$250 per week for a child under 2. It drops to $235 per week after age 2. This is in Silver Spring. When I was looking last year, all of the providers that I visited were within $10 of this.

I pay 600 per month for FT, but my sitter is in NOVA.

I am new to the area - what is the Infant Toddler network? Do they have a website?

Thanks!

Their website is www.infanttoddler.com. It is a network of in-home daycare providers in Fairfax and Arlington counties.

They keep costs down somewhat by behaving more like a co-op - parents have to provide diapers, wipes, bibs, etc. Technically parents also have to provide a pack and play and high chairs, etc., but I've never been asked to do so - when kids "graduate" on to preschool, most parents leave their stuff behind because they don't want to deal with it. We just checked to make sure none of the existing items were too outdated or recalled and went ahead and used what our provider had on hand.

They aren't just a "network", Infant Toddler has authority from the state to license in-home family day care but they are the holders of the license, not the individual running the daycare. They're also not as cheap as co-ops. I know of very few providers (centers or in-home) that don't require parents to provide diapers, wipes, bottles, etc. In fact, I don't know of any center or in-home daycare that requires parents provide any equipment unless it's something specialized for their child.

If you know of some co-ops in Fairfax County that accept infants and cost less than $900 a month for 50 hours a week, I'd LOVE to hear about them . . .

To the 20:46 pp - can you recommend your daycare? I'm looking for in-home daycare for my infant DS at the end of this summer. Thanks!

I pay $250 per week in Rockville. Have you checked out www.mdchildcare.org? Go there, and click on "search for licensed care." You can put in your address and it will pull up a list of providers near your home or work, and will list their rates. Good luck!

I am the 20:15 poster. I would only recommend my daycare for an infant- up to about 18-19 months that is. Also my slot that I am giving up is a part time slot- do you only need part-time?
