Transplant or Washingtonian?

Are you a transplant or a native Washingtonian? I had a chat with a teacher friend who suggested that transplants see DCPS for the promise of what it can become while native Washingtonians cannot see beyond DCPS' less than stellar past.

I am a transplant who sent my children to private school our first 3 years in DC, but decided to enter the lottery this year because of the great things I have heard from Ward 5 parents who love the neighborhood schools and charter choices in the area. Amy others have similar experiences?

I'm a transplant with older kids.

We saw possibilities for our children in charters. Our DCPS choices were and remain failing schools.

I'm a transplant with a younger kid in a charter. However, I grew up in a city, with less than stellar schools, and I refuse to live in the suburbs.

Transplant. Good experience so far and remaining optimistic but keeping our eyes open and will make moves should it be necessary.

From NoVa. My child will enroll in a charter this fall. If it was the right DCPS I would consider it. My neighborhood schools are not an option.

I'm a DC native and Wilson grad. I send my kids to private. I struggled in college to catch up especially with writing.

transplant. Went to shitty small town southern schools. Did fine in college. Not scared of shitty schools but looking for something completely different for my kids (don't want good, traditional school either). Charter fits the bill.

Native. Love two blocks from my parents. Kids go to school where I went to school (DCPS) though we are going to send oldest to private for high school.

You lost me at Ward 5. If you were on the Hill trying to build up your neighborhood school I'd cheer you on, but in Ward 5 you should know better.
