What goes on in class in MCPS elementary schools during these last two weeks of the school year?

To be fair, same thing in private school I know well. The last couple of weeks are full of events, class parties, sometimes even games and movies.

OP here - thanks. So is it fair to assume that all testing etc is done by now, and it is either just some instruction and/or parties/events? We do have a few events and parties scheduled in the coming two weeks..

In my country of origin, the last weeks of the school year were final exams. You learned of your results by snail mail.

AND, final exams were mandatory for all grades except for the two years of kindergarten - upper and lower kindergarten!

You finished your final exams, went home and remained in bed for a couple of days to recover from the all-nighters you pulled. Aaahhh... good times!

Teacher here. I teach up until a few days before school ends. We do have a lot of special events during the last 2-3 weeks- sports day, school carnival, special breakfast for honor roll students, students who tested out of ESOL have an ice cream social, etc. The last week, I have the kids write a letter to their teacher for next year, I give out awards and make sure students start taking their work folders home, etc. Last 2 days is usually a movie, cleaning, extra recess, etc.

My first grader is still doing math fact and spelling tests in the last few weeks.

5th grade - project due with Powerpoint presentation; spelling test; math packet, etc. But also 5th grade graduation party and fun stuff.

1st grade. Math and writing practice, field trip to the public library to get everyone signed up for the summer reading program, nothing extraordinary but still substantive.

No. I have one in private and one in MCPS; the one in private was in MCPS for 6 years. Our private school works the kids right up to the end - but the last day of school is today (if they graduate) or tomorrow.

Teacher here. Winding down with curriculum stuff for my grade, but we're doing fun learning projects. It's definitely worthwhile for the kids--we're in the middle of Shark Week!
