12 month old, any recommendations of which swim diaper is best?
Cloth diaper user here -- many pools require the disposables even if you use the reusable. Many want the disposable + plastic pants (reusable) to make sure no solids leak out...
We've used both disposable and reusable swim diapers. Both are fine, although reusable ones are cheaper. Make sure to get ones with velcro on the sides, not ones that pull up like regular underwear, just in case.
If your baby might go poo in the pool, it might be better to wait. Ours wouldn't go poo outside the house, so never really a concern. But the idea of a swim diaper is that water flows in and out, and while poo solids would stay in, pool water would still circulate in and out of the diaper.
We love the iplay reusable diapers for our 14 mo.
We use iplay reusable too. No problems. They fit tight and leave red marks but that is to b expected since they are supposed to hold stuff in.
Highly recommend the reusable ones. If you get the disposables, you are supposed to put a plastic cover over the top, and that seems uncomfortable to me.
We use bummis reusable. They're great. Saves tons of money over reusable ones
No, red marks are not to be expected. There are better brands of reusable swim diapers than iplay out there, that won't leave red marks. |
Alva baby makes adjustable size reusable ones. They aren't too thick which is nice. And they are only $6 or 8 each
If you cloth diaper, you can just use a pocket without the inserts. We had apple cheek swim diapers and loved them... lots of elastic and had snaps on the side for easy on/off. What ever you get, make sure they have snaps or velcro to get on/off. You generally need a plastic diaper on top.
How often are you going swimming? You can actually reuse the disposables if there's no poo in there. They aren't absorbent, so if there's no solids you can just rinse/dry/reuse. If you do get a reusable, I would recommend one that the sides open so you aren't trying to pull down a poopy wet swim diaper off your kid's legs.
21:57 - your comment would be more helpful ifyou named those brands...
We use Charlie Banana resusable swim diaper. They hold up great. If you only have a weekly swim class, say, you really only need one. I like them better than the iPlay ones, which seem more like a cover that you put over a regular disposable diaper (or at least the ones we tried).
I use both. If the kids are in a swimming pool I use the disposables. If we are at a beach, I use the reusables so they don't get diaper rash.
