| Our beloved 13 month old kitty disappeared 2 days ago. He's an indoor cat and I think he must be terrified wherever he is. We've searched the yards of all our neighbors repeatedly and we're keeping the garage open in case he comes home when we aren't there. We've talked to neighbors, notified the shelter, posted to FB (personal page and lost pets) and the community listserv. We also have flyers. We have friends who shared stories about their outdoor cats showing up after days/weeks but not indoor cats. If your indoor cat came home, will you share your story? I just need to hear that some of them do. |
| We had a super skittish indoor cat who got out - came home four or five days later even though we had searched every nook and cranny for her. |

Hi, Op
I am so sorry that about your missing cat! Does it have a chip? Have you notified all the shelters in your area? Do you have signs in the neighborhood? One time my cat got out but he only went as far as our small porch in our backyard. When I called him he then answered and that is how I got him back in the house. Good luck! Let us know what happens. |

Growing up, we had an indoor cat who was allowed to go on the deck. He jumped off the deck, and ran into the woods for an adventure. Came back two weeks later, filthy and smelly, but not starving, and with half a squirrel as a gift for us.
If you don't already, hit your cat with some flea and tick medicine when he comes back, even if he's supposed to be an indoor cat. |
Did you read the OP at all? |
|
Notify the shelters. Put up signs nearby.
Cats really don't wander far. They often borrow close to home. Put out your cat's food and water. One cat rescue lady advised us to put out jack mackerel to lure our lost cat, and lent us a trap. Our cat had been gone for weeks. We had looked for him all over. Seriously, more than a month later we saw him running around the neighborhood again, so used the trap/mackerel and got him that night. |

Did you read the OP at all? Well, excuse me Princess! I missed the part that she contacted the shelter. But at least I gave her a positive story about a indoor cat coming home and all you did was snark at me! |
| Thank you for sharing! It really gives me hope, especially after another unsuccessful search this afternoon. I'm not giving up! |
| I had a friend whose cat was discovered almost 6 months after being lost. He was hanging out with the other strays and the owners hung out in the dark, put wet food out, and staked it out. that's dedication |

My cat was gone for a week. I turned out he got treed by a bunch of dogs he was antagonizing.
OP - go look for him at night. Call his name and see if he responds. Good luck.. |

We lost our our elderly kitty after a move to a new neighborhood. He was gone for over a week and was picked up by DC Animal Control when someone found him about two blocks away, lost and sick. Animal Control had the picture we had sent and called us right away.
He was in pretty bad shape but we nursed him back to health. Good luck! The general wisdom is that cats don't go far from home, so keep walking around and calling for him. |
Don't, OP. You didn't say how long you've had the cat, but after a few months, they know where home is. As others have said, it's very common for cats to wander off for a while. Keep us posted! |
| ^^^^Forgot to say, yes, mine has got out for days and come home again! |

One of our declawed, indoor cats ran out the door one nigh and we couldn't catch him.
One evening a couple weeks later, we heard a sound outside, opened the door, and he ran inside crying and purring. We had him for a six more years before we had to put him dowm. |
