Anyone taking Metroprolol/Toprol? What are your experiences?

Anonymous
I just started taking 25 MG of Toprol XL / Metroprolol for an arrhythmia, and I don't feel like it's doing much of anything to help. If anything, my chest feels tight, I feel more anxiety, and my blood pressure has gone up. Has anyone else experienced these side effects? Will they eventually subside?

Never have had a problem. These drugs are Bette blockers and should be lowering your B/P, not increasing it. These drugs are typically given to high B/P patients. 25mg is also a low dose.

I've been taking 25 MG of metroprolol-HCTZ for high blood pressure for almost 2 months now. Not sure if that's the same or slightly different than what your taking. While it has worked to slow my heart rate and my blood pressure my doctor wants it a little lower so she's switching me to something else. She said it was basically the same (another beta blocker) with a slight difference in the way the drug works. She wants to keep me on the Metoprolol family of drugs because of my anxiety which she says this helps.

In any case, I hvaent seen any negative side effects from it myself. Talk to you doctor to see if there is something else they can try for you.

The HCTZ is a water pill form of Metroprolol. It may cause you to pee a little more then usual.

It does slow my heart rate but my arrithmia still there though definitely not as bothersome as before. I am having super vivid dreams though, like watching thriller every night, as a side effect.

No it isn't. The HCTZ is a totally different separate class of medications. It is a diuretic. Totally different mechanism.

I took metropolol while waiting for an ablation for SVT. I seriously hated it and the way it made me feel. If an ablation is an option, please consider it.

It's the best beta blocker I've been on I'm also on a low dose. Give it a few weeks to see how you feel it's a very decent beta blocker.

Just started low dose of metoprolol last night and feel tired, headache, drugged this morning. If I stick with it, will these side effects get better? Wondering if I should just ask for the "as needed" form since I am just trying to control SVT.

Anyone have any advice?

Bump.

I also began metoprolol this week to control SVT. I am only on half of the 25mg daily but already feel drugged, out of it for the last 3 days. I also get a headache while I am on it.

Interested in learning if these side affects will ease.

How did it make you feel?

I’ve been on it a long time. No problems.
