Mother-daughter dress, bathing suit, or PJs?

My niece's second birthday is next week, and my SIL's is just a few days after that, so I was thinking of getting them matching outfits. My niece is going to be a big sister soon, so I thought it would be nice for her to have a special mommy and me outfit. Can anyone recommend a store/site that sells matching dresses, bathing suits, or PJs? I know that Hanna Anderson has some options, but right now, they seem to be out of a lot of sizes, and the stuff that's left is kind of ugly. Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

Oh dear lord, please don't get matching outfits... What looks good on a child will never look good on an adult, and its just tacky.

Although I think mother-daughter outfits are kind of yucky, you could do some things that pass the "smell test." What about a large monogrammed tote bag (LL Bean/Pottery Barn) for mom, and a tiny little monogrammed bag for the daughter. (Different style monograms? Or the same?) Matching monogrammed robes? Or a gift basket with cosmetics for mom, a tiny little basket with refreshing powders and sprays for daughter. I think it's nice, OP, that you want to do something for both of them.

I agree with PP but knew my kids would get such a kick out of it, so we got matching PJs--Karen Neuberger's "If You Give a Mouse" set. Those seem to be out of stock, but there are other choices here: http://www.pajamagram.com/mommy-and-me-pajamas.html

Obviously, a 30 year old woman is not going to look great in a baby doll dress. The cut would be different, but they would be made out of the same fabric.

Monogrammed aprons is another one if they like to cook together.

With a little help from her father, my daughter got us matching T-shirts from Cafe Press for Mother's Day. They were politically themed. She loves wearing them.

Oh dear. Oh no.

This isn't my taste as an adult, but as a young child my sister and mother and I had matching nightgowns that my mom had made for us. We loved them. I think PJs is the best option, but I'm afraid I don't have any tips as to where to buy.

OP here. I never realized people had such strong opinions on this. I guess I'll need to reconsider. My mom and I had matching pajamas when I was a kid, and I loved them. Honestly, who the heck cares if it is a fashion faux pas? SIL is not really my favorite person in the world anyway, so in my mind, this was more for my niece. Guess I'll have to go back to the drawing board. Thanks anyway.

I think the pj idea is cute. I saw some at pajama gram recently (http://www.pajamagram.com/mommy-and-me-pajamas.html).

I don't think you should give up on the idea -- I'm the PP who's mom made matching nightgowns for us and my sister. The reason I think PJs are a good idea is that if your SIL isn't into the idea of being matchy in public she will probably still be fine with matchy PJs (I would be, but wouldn't be caught dead being matchy in public). Plus, since it's really more for your niece, I think she's likely to like the gift.

If you insist on buying matching outfits, I did see some Shoshanna bathing suits for mothers/ daughters. Maybe buy one half a two piece and the other a one piece, then it will not be so overly matchy matchy

Oh yuck!!! I think women who wear mathcing outfits as their daughters have some serious issues. And pajamas aren't as bad, but come on, do you really want to dress like your child for bed? Don't you have a spouse who might want to see his wife as a, you know, woman????

Some men don't need crotchless knickers to see their wives as women.
