Ocasio-Cortez makes $174,000 annually with her congressional salary and has used the funds to move into the posh Navy Yard neighborhood in Washington D.C. that, ironically, is also a favorite of President Donald Trump's staffers.

My mother was a socialist when I was growing up and lived at home. She still is. She painted a picture of socialism that sounded good. I definitely was a lefty in college. Extreme.

But stuff like this is why I cannot take socialism seriously. The minute AOC gets to DC, it’s luxury for her.

If she truly was a working class champion, she’d live somewhere less expensive and donate or help the poor and downtrodden.

That’s supposed to be the difference between people like her and the rich baddies. But it seems all people want is to feed voters a line, get in office, and then, good times.

It is appalling the level of inculture of this country. Democratic socialism has nothing to do with communism. You can be very rich and be a socialist. Socialism is not about all being poor, but on the contrary, to make the conditions so everyone can live their best life. Its about redistributing wealth, not about not being wealthy.

Well, then tell me why my relatives in Italy fly here for medical procedures? This idea of "best life" only goes so far. Socialized medicine is fine to address a cold - not so great for cancer.

And socialism isn't so great for producing jobs.

just sayin'

If the US health care system is so great why do people go to Mexico for dental procedures and for prescriptions.

I grew on the US Mexican boarder and saw Americans going to the hospital where my Aunt worked in Juarez.

People go to Mexico to have dental work done? Hard pass. It must be to get it done dirt cheap, like plastic surgery.

This is really a thing. Americans do get dental work done in other countries because it's cheaper. You can pass on it, but plenty of doctors and dentists here in the US are actually from other countries and were trained in other countries.

I lived in El Paso and saw this as well. Not to mention everything else that was so much more affordable in Mexico. Heck, we used to run to Juarez just to fill the truck up because the Pemex gasoline was so much more cheap than in the US.

My parents lived in a retirement community on the border. All the retirees had their dental work done in Mexico. As soon as you crossed the border you would see dentist offices all over. Much cheaper and just as good.

Do you even have a clue WHY? I doubt it!

Please tell us dummies why.

Cheaper doesn't mean better.

Of course if you have money ANYWHERE you'll find the best of the best. But I bet that even people on medicaid here in the states receive better treatment than "regular old Joes" in Mexico. Why do you think so many people are trying to cross over?

too lazy to do research - But how much money do we pay in healthcare for unauthorized immigrants?

Who defines "best life"?

Having lived in two European socialist countries, your best life can end as soon as you have a serious medical condition. A neighbor with breast cancer was given minimal treatment for a year and died soon after with palliative care. Her daughter was in her 20s, so she was probably in her 50s. The daughter said she was given no chemo or radiation therapy.

AOC never ceases to amaze and amuse.

"Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) said Saturday that, in the U.S., "if you don’t have a job, you are left to die."

Ocasio-Cortez, who made the remark at South by Southwest in Austin, Texas, added that "we should not be haunted by" the possibility of automated workers replacing jobs, according to The Verge.

“We should be excited by that. But the reason we’re not excited by it is because we live in a society where if you don’t have a job, you are left to die. And that is, at its core, our problem," added the congressman, whose "Green New Deal" proposal includes a federal jobs guarantee."

She said that where we are as Americans amounts to 10% better than "garbage."
She says that capitalism is irredeemable.

I have a question for her: why does she think so many people want to come here?

Have you been there?

I suppose she'd say, "Duh. Because it's 10% better than where they're coming from." And if they could travel as easily to Europe, they'd gladly forgo the wasteland that is the US.

One term and she is gone. She has set a very poor example. All mouth and she doesn't even live by what she lectures others on.

I want her to keep talking. I want the press to keep covering her.
She has become the spokesperson for the left. The more she talks, the more people will reject what she is pushing.
If I didn't know better, I would almost think that she is an operative for Trump.

Yall ever notice how close her story is to good will hunting? Except instead of janitor who’s secretly smart, she was a waitress who openly crushed it at BU

She may as well say that the US is a shithole country.

You guys are really obsessed by this. Undocumented people have nothing to do with the cost of our medicine. You are willing to blame immigrants, but not big business. That's why the republicans know they have you. They have convinced you to fight the wrong person. Amazing actually.

This line of questioning negates her "success" from the Cohen questioning.
