Ocasio-Cortez makes $174,000 annually with her congressional salary and has used the funds to move into the posh Navy Yard neighborhood in Washington D.C. that, ironically, is also a favorite of President Donald Trump's staffers.

My mother was a socialist when I was growing up and lived at home. She still is. She painted a picture of socialism that sounded good. I definitely was a lefty in college. Extreme.

But stuff like this is why I cannot take socialism seriously. The minute AOC gets to DC, it’s luxury for her.

If she truly was a working class champion, she’d live somewhere less expensive and donate or help the poor and downtrodden.

That’s supposed to be the difference between people like her and the rich baddies. But it seems all people want is to feed voters a line, get in office, and then, good times.

It is appalling the level of inculture of this country. Democratic socialism has nothing to do with communism. You can be very rich and be a socialist. Socialism is not about all being poor, but on the contrary, to make the conditions so everyone can live their best life. Its about redistributing wealth, not about not being wealthy.

Who defines "best life"?

Well, then tell me why my relatives in Italy fly here for medical procedures? This idea of "best life" only goes so far. Socialized medicine is fine to address a cold - not so great for cancer.

And socialism isn't so great for producing jobs.

just sayin'

Brilliant reply. Go back to discussing the next tweet about first world problems - like split ends.

You sound a little defensive. Maybe Jeff should check the IP addresses...

It’s 100% lies and manipulation to purposefully cut someone down for the purposes of bolstering one’s own cause and the people that back that cause.

It’s just like the Columbia Heights Target open bathrooms lie thread and I’m surprised that it’s been allowed to go on for so long.

If the US health care system is so great why do people go to Mexico for dental procedures and for prescriptions.

I grew on the US Mexican boarder and saw Americans going to the hospital where my Aunt worked in Juarez.

People go to Mexico to have dental work done? Hard pass. It must be to get it done dirt cheap, like plastic surgery.

you speak like a person who never lived in socialist country. What are you talking about is a complete theory and a complete failure. There are few socialist countries in the world, but there is only one America. Why don't you move to your dream country and let Americans live American live?

This is really a thing. Americans do get dental work done in other countries because it's cheaper. You can pass on it, but plenty of doctors and dentists here in the US are actually from other countries and were trained in other countries.

Ingvar Kamprad, founder of Ikea just passed away a few weeks ago. For many years he was on the Forbes billionaires list as one of the top 10 most wealthy people in the world. He amassed an incredible fortune. He did that in Sweden, which has had a majority socialist government for almost 100 years.

I lived in El Paso and saw this as well. Not to mention everything else that was so much more affordable in Mexico. Heck, we used to run to Juarez just to fill the truck up because the Pemex gasoline was so much more cheap than in the US.
