"McConnell feels "optimistic" after lunch with Collins

From CNN's Ted Barrett

Sen. Susan Collins, just a few hours before she is to announce her decision on the Brett Kavanaugh nomination, had lunch with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Majority Whip John Cornyn.

McConnell said he is “optimistic” about the vote tomorrow. He added that they had lunch in the Member’s Dining Room in the Capitol.

It is rare for this to happen.

Moments after McConnell entered his office, Collins appeared in the hall and walked on the floor, holding an uneaten carryout salad. "

-CNN

As if McConnell would say anything else right before the vote. He doesn't want any current "yeses" to start second-guessing.

Are we to make something of the "uneaten carryout salad?" Everybody is straining at gnats.

I'm sure he did his best to bully her into a yes. Guess he won't take no for answer.

It's funny the way that CNN put that, "It is rare for this to happen." It's rare for McConnell to call for a vote when he doesn't know if he has the votes. Almost unheard of.

Sorry, I'm not much of a drinker, but you ragers need something to help you get a grip of yourselves. Maybe a walk in nature tomorrow would be good for you. It's going to be another beautiful day tomorrow!!!

Celebrate.

OK.

How on God's green earth can a single Democrat vote yes on such a partisan issue, when the rest of his party is a strong no?

I thought the red-state Democrats would be given a pass to vote yes only if they were not the deciding vote, or close to it.

I don’t understand this either. I don’t know how anyone could vote Kavanaugh in and remain a democrat.

My theory is that Manchin is so appalled by the well-orchestrated smear campaign by Democrats that he plans to switch parties.

I just hope McConnell does not assault anyone in his zeal to capture votes, particularly women senators.
