No because those trainings and modules aren’t even available to us to work through yet. At least at the high school level - they are being delivered to us on a ad hoc basis on those PD days, they don’t currently exist anywhere for us to access at our leisure. Also most of us left our devices and computers at school over break, even if I wanted to get ahead on those I couldn’t since I didn’t bring my computer home. The calendar is set and isn’t changing because we’re using some of our built in snow days.

That is complete bull. Most teachers bring their computers home on a nightly basis to keep up with emails and grades at home. It is very odd to leave your computer at school for 2 weeks over the break. You purposely left it. Very odd.

Of course I purposely left it, I never claimed otherwise. I do not work over break, why would I bring it home??

You said even if you wanted to get ahead, you couldn’t because you left your device at school. You implied you cannot work at all without your school computer.

Why would you assume that you’re replying to the same person on an anonymous forum?

There are people in the county without kids who are still going to work this morning.

Only a few of those are in the Federal Government, OPM closed it around 9 PM yesterday. I am teleworking but the people who don’t have telework authorization are off.

“Yay?” You’re ridiculous.

And no, before you bother, I’m neither a teacher nor any type of school district employee.

Just did my driveway. Snow is heavy. Slushy at the bottom. Be careful. Warm up. Take a breaks if needed. Took me 45 minutes. I was sweating like crazy. Fitbit only gave me 5 zone minutes. : )

So you don't want your kids in school?

NP: Hoping for Tuesday snow day, but normal Wednesday. Delayed starts are like the worst of all worlds for work planning.

Do you know what “even if” means? It means I DON’T want to get ahead on a snow day EVEN **IF**, IF, I DID, my, and most other teachers’ device is at school.

Are you just pulling s h I t from your butt or do you have some link you’d like to quote? Are you one of those “It just feels like xyz is happening…?”

Here is Capital Weather Gang’s post from 6:30am

If you're just waking up, 3-6" of snow has already fallen across much of the DC area. We're well on our way to 6-12"

Some totals are shown here.

Instant gratification has fried our brains. People see a forecast of 6-12 inches over a 24 hour period and think if they don’t see all 12+ when they wake up at 6 am then we didn’t get anything.

Better a delayed start then closed.

I think its kind of wild that according to pp, teachers left their work laptops at school when school closed for break (12/19?) with zero plans to open them up until school is back in session this morning. (Did you not need to plan anything for this school week?)

Most professionals cannot completely check out like that for weeks on end.

The original forecast had the biggest batch of snow coming overnight. The snow hole seemed to delay the start of the storm and then most of us woke up to no precipitation at all when the heaviest snow was supposed to fall before 10am. It's picked back up again but I would be surprised if we hit double digits unless the heavy snow window extends later than originally. We'll likely hit the 6 inch mark and be within our prohection but the storm also clearly went further south than originally projected based on snow totals in Stafford. It's disappointing when all the models showed the DMV getting the biggest accumulations.

All that said, this is the most snow my kids have ever seen in person so they're already up and out having a great time in what we do have.

We are definitely not getting 12 inches where I am. We barely have 4 now in north Reston. I’m predicting school Wednesday.

I planned for what we would do on our return before we even left. The entire district is closed for 2 whole weeks and the kids aren’t there- yes, in that context, you can check out. There’s quite literally nothing to do and those are not paid contract days for us! If you envy the ability, feel free to join us. Apply at the FCPD teaching fair when it opens this spring.
