Then you have to wonder why she’s not participating in what seems like a guaranteed role on the reboot, at least. I think she comes off like she’s too good to go back to acting which is another reason she’s not too liked. |
| The problem is she's not particularly talented at anything. Whatever she does she has to trade on her name.... which is why she clings to that duchess title like a barnacle on a ship. The Duchess of Kent doesn't go by her title and just teaches piano in some country village living modestly. MM could never do something like that because she WANTS the fame and money. I genuinely hope this ARO thing works out for her. |
| The millennials I know don't have much of an interest in royals. Their mothers, GenX and Boomers, are more likely to care about the BRF connection. |
Stephen Colbert (60s) seems to be shilling for H&M lately. I expect to see him fawning over Meghan and letting her feed him ARO fruit butters on ARO scones soon. |
Maybe she doesn't want to be directed by anyone again. |
Throwing off the shackles of employability. The mermaid finds her voice! |
I'll bet she does a cameo or very limited guest appearances. She needs to generate interest in ARO. It could get her invited to the awards shows if the Suits reboot is nominated. |
I don't think she ever had a passion for acting did she? |
I agree with this. I also think part of the problem is that her marriage is extremely high profile and a constant topic for gossip and attacks. Which means that if she had a role that involved literally any level of romance, I think the scrutiny on it would be impossible. People would lose it if the the Duchess of Sussex and the woman married to the person 7th (or whatever, I'm not going to look it up) in line to the throne was making out or simulating sexual situations with an actor on screen. I just think people would lose it. But also the number of roles available to women without that element are very small, and because of Meghan's appearance, her casting would lean towards more romantic roles. I definitely would rather see her doing something fashion-related. Actually I think what I'd really love is for her to curate a collection of baby clothes and accessories. I don't even have babies anymore, I just bet it would be really cute. And since her kids aren't babies anymore, there wouldn't be pressure to feature them in the branding. That is the kind of thing I would have been all over when I was pregnant. |
Good question. Has she talked about that? |
The role wouldn't have to require sex or romance. She could be a partner who is a warrior for the less fortunate. |
| Never say never. Hollywood is full of comeback stories. |
I thought she was a reasonably good actress on Suits. Not like the best actress I've ever seen, but good. And there's not that many people who are good at it -- certainly I've seen plenty of television actors who were much worse than she was, some of whom have even gone on to have long careers. I don't think people understand how hard acting is. Also doing a show like that is a lot of long hours if you are a principal. That's not an easy job. She was a working actor from about 2002 until 2017, a fifteen year career in which she was more successful than 99% of other actors. She had a leg up because her parents worked in the industry and she's from LA, but it's not like they were rich or famous -- they worked in the trades. I'm sorry but dismissing her as a "barnacle" with no talent because she married a prince and hasn't worked since, when she clearly worked pretty hard to a lot of success until she was 36 is really weird to me. She's obviously reasonable talented and hard working, whatever else you might think of her. Most royals literally never have any job at all. |
That's not how it works. She will never get a job as a regular on a TV show if her contract dictated that her character could never be involved in any romance. It would be way too constricting for the writers and producers, and also as an actress she is not the right "type" for that kind of role -- she's an attractive woman under the age of 50, the roles she'd be most suitable for would all involve romance. I mean, Jodi Foster just did True Detective playing a police chief in Alaska and she still wound up in her underwear in a sex scene. No way could Meghan reboot her acting career and avoid any romance plot lines whatsoever. |
Not really. Women in 40-50s start playing the mother of the romantic lead. |
