VHSL Boys 2024 Season (Discussion and Scores)

Winter league and scrimmages in the spring are most definitely not the same thing at all. That is laughable

Feel free to start your own thread. If you think 6A is the only good lacrosse in VHSL, I am formally inviting you to Leesburg tonight to watch THE two top public schools in VA play.

poor decision...

There is a separate Loudoun High School Lacrosse thread for this very reason.

Well if I post only about Loudoun, I’ll use that. To the original point and this thread:

You don’t get to dictate after the fact.

Also, I have little to nothing to do with Indy or their program. I am confused why everyone invokes their name when a post don’t agree with the Peoples Republic of Fairfax County. What I enjoy is how they seem to live rent free in ur head.

Just checked Riverside's website. Game Time is 6pm tonight vs. Atlee for those planning on watching this match up. I have Atlee winning by 6. Will be interesting if Riverside can keep it closer then that.

Should be a fun game regardless.

Class 6 ranking guy here. I don't mind the discussion. I do think it is funny that Indy keeps coming up. Yes it was a scrimmage, but I saw them play Langley and was not impressed. They gave Battlefield a game though so there must be something there, unless Battlefield is worse than we think. We will find out in April when they play McLean.

I also saw Robinson/Riverside play. If I had to slot the Class 5 teams into the rankings I would have Riverside at #2, but it would be a close call with Robinson. Indy based on the Battlefield result would probably be #7/8 after McLean but before Freedom. Briar Woods could maybe be in the #9/10 spot or the top of the Also Considered.

From what I have seen so far, Riverside will not get tested in Class 5 this year and should cruise to yet another championship. Patrick Henry Roanoke gave them a scare last year but they look down this year and almost lost to Jefferson Forest

Couple games tonight that could be interesting/competitive:

Yorktown @ Oakton
Lake Braddock @ West Springfield
West Potomac @ South County

Langley @ Robinson Saturday should be a good one.

They are going to give top teams fits. Robo did just enough to get the W. In the first game YT was the better team for 3 quarters and Madison just kept fighting back led by a dominant 2nd half by their face off guy.

I wish Langley and McLean were playing Madison in the regular season. Seems like we have five really solid teams with a shot here. Battlefield feels like a distant sixth now after that stinker against Indy but with their defense and goaltending they can still be in the mix if they can lock a team down in the playoffs and win a close, low-scoring game. Shaping up to be a great season.

as of now, it looks like any one of the big five (Yorktown, McLean, Langley, Robinson, Madison) could beat any of the other four on any given day. all five have some unknowns and some work to do to prove that they are as good as the others. but it is hard to see anyone competing with these five.

With Riverside beating Madison, all 5 are a step behind the boys out past Dulles? I guess they are used to it though, these boys have been losing to them since 8U.

what was the score of the Riverside Madison game?

what was the score of the Riverside Madison game?

8-7 (OT)

If Riverside/Madison was an overtime game, then I would not say that Riverside is better than the big 5, but they are definitely on equal footing. If Atlee plays a close game with Riverside, then they would be in the same discussion and it would be fair to say that there are 7 teams well ahead of everyone else.

This is obviously correct. Whoever made the first post was just trying to stir the pot and get a reaction. Mission accomplished.

By this logic scrimmages and winter league are similar *and not real but you brought it up* Indy and Robo played several times and had some flip flop close games. Are you then saying by extension Indy, and you would have to add Briar to the top 5 from Fairfax and 3 from Loudoun, are the same? If you don’t agree to that Riverside is obviously atop the Fairfax 5.

If you don’t think this high school age group (24-27) from Fairfax has not losing to Loudoun since 8u, you must not have played Nvyll.

Indy and Robo played twice, Indy beat Robo without half their team in a braveheart, Robo then beat them 12-5 with the whole squad - not flip flop

Try three times. Final game was 5-4 Robo over Indy. The 2nd game Indy was playing without players themselves , namely a goalie.

As I said pick your position Robo/ Riverside in a scrimmage is the same as Robo/Indy in winter. Or, Riverside topped Madison without their largest weapon at the X and is clearly better. You can’t have it both ways. Either off-season counts or it does not.

Not the case. Off-season vs. season (scrimmage or game) are entirely different. Off-season has equal playing time for everyone because everyone paid. Fairfax schools cannot be coached by actual members of the coaching staff. Off-season play lacks the structure of in-season play as well. It's roll that ball out and get up and down. I do agree that Indy and Riverside are both good and maybe if they all played one another you'd be right about your assessment, but one win does not mean they are the best team in NoVA. Scrimmage or not, if they had dominated Robinson I think you'd have probably mentioned that in this thread, so you can't have it both ways.

LOL catching up on this thread now.
I applaud you Ranking Guy for being a calming voice of reason in this debate and not as close minded as it seems both sides are here in Fairfax and Loudoun.
I just like watching the boys play and really enjoy your rankings and the time you take to do it. Thank you!!

Having watched too much lax over the years in person and on stream, I would say that your take here is fairly accurate with the 5/6 debate and teams. Would love you to continue to slot the 5's in with the 6's, but don't need a full breakdown of the 5's just really a side note. Love to have a balance to my own thoughts.

Also, would be interested in where you place Atlee on your list. Personally, I place them at #1 until I see otherwise and fortunately will this year!

As an FYI: PH-R is down this year, so it seems. From what I see they lost about 16 to 18 seniors. Included in those losses is a kid on a D1 scholarship to Notre Dame Football at LB. Grandpa was drafted by the Denver Broncos, dad was a lacrosse all American player and also coached and played MLL, and sister is currently at Pitt on the women's team. Any team that loses that sort of athlete alone, much less 15-17 others, is going to be a bit down.

Kudos Ranking Guy.

Langley @ Robinson should be interesting with the heavy rain tomorrow.

I agree with you that Atlee is #1. They have now won 30 straight games including games against Riverside (last year) and a bunch of private schools. The recent convincing win over Blue Ridge school was impressive. I watched Blue Ridge beat PVI and that team is solid. We are lucky to get to see Atlee play both Riverside and Madison. They also play Cosby, St. Christopher's, St. Anne's Bellefield later this year - basically anyone who will play them.

Hopefully it won't impact anything. Rain is supposed to be over before the game starts.
