| Anyone live there? Pros and cons from people who live there? Thanks. |
| Airplane noise, all the time. |
| Do you live there? |
| the no-Metro-stop thing is either a major con or a big pro, depending on your perspective. Either way, it can't be ignored |
| Lovely, green, near the river for those who like running/canoeing/biking. Airplane noise. Few sidewalks off the main street---total pain for pedestrians, especially those with strollers. Great elementary school (Key). |
| Worked there for two years - air traffic yes but the nice restaurants, quaint village feel and access to the river make up for this. |
|
lived there for 5 yrs.
PROS TONS of kids. Not pretentious good school close to Gtown and downtown via Whitehurst Fwy unique and VARIED architecture. Mix of people--big houses, small houses, etc near river/nature awesome playground CONS off in the corner of DC so not super convenient to most dc neighborhoods. a handful of decent restaurants but nothing special no metro cabs always get lost going there. I was NOT bothered by the airplane noise. Got so used to it that I honestly did not notice! |

When I needed a rabies shot last week, I went to Sibley Hospital emergency room at the suggestion of my doctor (who takes her kids there). It was uncrowded and very pleasant. I don't know that I'd go there in a true emergency (don't know enough about them to judge on that one way or another) but if you have a kid with an ear infection, it would be very handy.
Palisades is gorgeous! I can't afford to live there and I'm addicted to metro anyway but if I had the money I would be tempted. |
| Sibley has no pediatrics! So no, don't go there with the little ones. |
| I'd check out the street parking, for when you have company over. Seems a little tight? |
compared to the serious burbs, maybe. But compared with other NW DC neighborhoods parking is easy in the Palisades. As for Sibley, it's a community hospital. Dont go there for anything related to spine, brain, heart! It's basically a baby factory. But, no, they do not have specialty in pediatrics so always send your kid to Children's for major emergency (esp involving head) |
| We don't live there but are looking at moving there. It has a great neighborhood feel with a public elementary that most kids go to. I think that's why you see so many kids there. Only con for is lack of metro but then again it keeps crime lower too. |
| I agree metro = crime. No one here seems privvy to that and seem to accept "property crimes". Guess what comes after property crimes! Anyway, nice neighborhood...if you can afford it... |
| How does Metro=crime? You're telling me muggers make their getaways on public transportation? The crime reports I read make it sound like there's no shortage of getaway cars. |
|
It is simply a fact that in NW DC, the neighborhoods that are the least accessible by public transportation have the lowest felony and non-felony crime rates. We don't need to debate this fact, any MPD map available on the web will confirm that.
(this may be true of other DC quadrants, or not. I have not studied them). |
