Unexplained infertility and what worked

Anonymous
If you have received a diagnosis of unexplained infertility, what ultimately worked?

I was told start with IUI, and that plus the HSG might be all we need to get pregnant.

It's been 15 months of trying naturally with no luck.

HSG and IUI are natural first steps. I did both (6 IUIs) and was not successful, but we still don't know why.

When I had been trying for over 2 years, I got pregnant 8 weeks before starting IVF. We were saving money and waiting until January (to use our FSA funds) and we'd already attended a few classes. And in early November I got a positive test. I'm still not sure why exactly. That's the problem with unexplained. I was healthy, my DH's sperm looked fantastic, my uterus looked normal, but nothing worked. Until one random time it did.

We stopped using protection just before my DD turned a year (I weaned at 9 months, so my cycle was back). I got pregnant the same month she turned 1. I miscarried, unfortunately. Then I had a chemical 3 months later. And two months after that I got pregnant again and am now 17 weeks along. I have NO IDEA why I couldn't get pregnant for over 2 years and now it seems I can get pregnant every few months. I suspect I might have had endometriosis, that the pregnancy helped clear, but I'm not sure.

Try to IUIs, but just do 3. Then collect yourself and consider IVF is the right route. If my endo had been diagnosed, that would have been the path the REs told us to go anyhow (IVF) so we got there on our own without a diagnosis.

Good luck. I hope it works out for you soon.

We had unexplained fertility, did 3 rounds of unsuccessful IUI and 1 successful IVF with ICSI. The whole ART process took only 4 months bc I was 40 and we didn't want to wait. How old are you OP?

I'm 38 (OP here). This is unexplained secondary infertility (no problems getting pregnant the first time).

I was unexplained. 2nd IUI worked for us.

IVF

But what we discovered through IVF was that my unexplained IF was really an issue of poor ovarian reserve. I was only 34 at the time.

We were unexplained and did three IUIs and one IVF and then two FETs. We ultimately adopted two daughters from China (now 8 and 3.5). That is what ended up "working" for us!

Lol, we gave up. We decided we couldn't afford fertility treatment and we would just be one and done. Watched a movie at home and drank a lot of wine, had sex (the kind you just have for fun, not to ttc) shocked to find out I was pregnant 7 weeks later.

I had unexplained infertility. Tried Clomid, HSG, and was getting ready to start IUI when my H left me.

5 years later, new DH, not thinking I'd ever get pg., bam.

So, for me it was a new partner.

I was also unexplained secondary infertility at 38. No problems with the first child. I did 1 IUI, got pregnant then miscarried early. Then I did an IVF cycle, got pregnant and had a later miscarriage. Then I decided I couldn't deal with more miscarriages so I had my 5 frozen embryos tested with PGS and found that only 2 were normal. Had one embryo put back in and got pregnant. Boy is now one year old. PGS was great for me. I just had bad egg quality despite good test results on the day 3 testing

TTCed for a year for our first. Ready to move to IUI despite DH's SA being amazing and no issues on my end. Went on vacay, drank a lot, and had amazing sex. Came back and turns out we conceived on vacation. I hate the old adage about relaxing and stress making it difficult...but it seems to have been the case for us.

(Also, weirdly, when we were TTCing #1, I had a lot of trouble orgasming with TTC sex, probably because of the pressure. When we TTCed #2 I decided to ignore dating/temping and just have sex when I was in the mood. We got pregnant the first month and I had many excellent orgasms -- I think orgasms are good for conception!)

acupuncture - worked for me. I was doing it to prep for IVF and got pregnant naturally. I know studies are mixed but i know several other people who have similar stories. My RE encouraged it.

Not unexplained but DOR.

Vitamin D
COQ10
Progesterone during luteal phase.
Got pregnant naturally 3 months after starting all of this (it had been 7 months prior). Zero alcohol during the month I conceived. The only time I ever tried that. I'm 38 yo.

Not sure what worked. A combo of it all?

I took vitamin b for a few months and that's what finally worked. And then supplementing with progesterone as soon as I found out I was pregnant.

IVF

We did 6 cycles of timed with Clomid at 36, then jumped right to IVF.
