Installing Window Trim?

Anonymous
The windows in our house have simple sills underneath them but no trim/headers. We replaced our blinds with cordless levelor shades, and the lack of trim is really stark. We'd like to add trim and headers around the windows to frame them. Has anyone done this, or hired someone to do this? Any contractor recs for this in NWDC/Bethesda? Thanks in advance.

What is covering the top/sides of the opening now? Thin strips of drywall and corner beads? To do it right you will want to add wood trim to the casing as well as the border on the wall. That means removing the drywall and going down to the studs. If you simply put trim on top your nice new blinds wouldn't fit

Price is completely dependent on what you want done, size of the window and condition of the existing trim. Simple, basic trim kits from Home Depot maybe $200-300 per window installed? Nice stained hardwoods much, much more.

No one removes drywall to install trim. It is trim. As in decorative not structural. You can do it yourself for almost free if you have the time. Personally, I hate large trim and we have removed ours and replaced with a minimalist look instead.

If drywall was used in place of the window casing where there is no trim, then, yes, you would remove it. You wouldn't just slap the casing on top of the strips of drywall
