That was me. It’s fine with us if we move to Longfellow and McLean or stay at Kilmer and Marshall. Kid is just in elementary now but I’m sure friends at other split feeders like Lemon Road can stay friends. |
Crossfield just finished a renovation and is projected at 83% capacity on the map tool. They really should staff it as an AAP Level 4 now so that their kids don't have to go to Navy for AAP, and then the Waples kids could go there or to Navy for AAP instead of going out of pyramid all the way to Hunters Woods. Wish Waples could have their own AAP but they don't have the room. I know the school board never mentioned AAP or IB/AP as part of this review - probably to avoid answering all the people who don't want to move and would prefer to end pupil placements. They really should. There are many "split feeders" not addressed because of where kids have to go for AAP. |
Crossfield already has AAP LLIV classes in every grade 3-6. I don't think very many kids go to Navy every year. |
But if you leave Shrevewood alone, then you could have only 3 since currently all of Shrevewood goes to Marshall. How does it make sense to move any of the students south of Route 7 to McLean? Why not move the houses north of 7, in Pimmit Hills, to McLean. |
Because then you would be ADDING walkers to McLean. Thru only knows how to REMOVE walkers and send them on busses. |
I really don't understand why they are sending the Navy island in Franklin Farm to Oak Hill instead of Crossfield with the rest of Franklin Farm on that side of the parkway. It makes no sense at all. |
All the feedback on pigeonhole from community meeting tonight is basically: don’t move my kids. |
It’s because Oak Hill has an AAP center like Navy has an AAP center. It’s more equitable. |
The scenarios presented and talked about make no sense. |
BS |
I have no idea where Emerald Chase is but that community’s ability to game the system to get their responses to dominate the system is next level. |
Then, if we want equity in programming, shouldn't all schools have an AAP center? That "Navy Island" is smack in the middle of Franklin Farm that attends Crossfield. Crossfield has room. It makes no sense at all. Look at the map. |
Waples is in a several-years process of phasing in local level IV. Starting next year, Waples will have local level IV at third and fourth grade. That being said, it will be a “cluster model” at Waples. Time will tell whether those students who chose to stay at Waples will get the same level of services as those that chose the center. |
It’s because they drew the lines based on existing middle school boundaries. The Navy island went to Franklin, while Crossfield went to Carson, so they stuck the island with Oak Hill. |
This is where it would be really helpful if the interactive tool showed the SPAs and the number of kids in each SPAs. APS had such a tool when it changed high school boundaries a few years ago. The tool FCPS is making available is more primitive. McLean has had kids on that side of Route 7 for years - just at Timber Lane rather than Shrevewood. But if we had a better tool we could see what the numbers would look like if more of Pimmit Hills (in addition to the Lemon Road area) were moved rather than part of Shrevewood. Marshall wouldn’t have 3 split feeders in that scenario. It might have 4, with one of them being Westgate rather than Shrevewood. |
