Most down-to-earth schools?

Anonymous
Where are the most down-to-earth school communities in MD? I grew up in a college town where everyone was smart and public schools were great, but nobody was rich or fancy or crazed about Ivy League admissions. I'd like to find something like that around here. Takoma seems like the natural answer, but I am intimidated by how big the schools are (Takoma Park Elementary and Blair.) Thanks!

In general, I would say that you're asking about the wrong county.

You should consider moving to DC. The DC public schools in my opinion are more down to earth and liberal

Down to earth schools are going to be located in DTE places. Takoma Park. Silver Spring. Rockville.

There is nothing down to Earth about DC schools.

I agree that Silver Spring and Rockville are places to look.

I think that OP needs to move to 1980, but that's hard to do without a time machine.

I don't know where you guys are at but my neighborhood schools are all at ground level.

I think Rockville is a nice balance. Something for everyone. I imagine Silver Spring is like that too. We looked in both communities for houses. We could have afforded Bethesda/Potomac but love Rockville!

OP, many of the lower county schools are overcrowded. So the closer you are to DC the bigger the class sizes if that's something that's important to you.

We lived in Calvert County and commuted to the city. Calvert is super chill but nice.

Silver Spring! Einstein is smaller and has an arts program. The feeder elementaries are all well liked as well.

Churchill cluster is down to earth. At least from our view (we have 2 at Potomac ES and love it)

Garrett Park, MD is very down to earth with an amazing public school.
