this may be a really stupid question, but please don't jump all over this FTM.
when shopping with a baby in a stroller, how do you manage the groceries? do you push with one hand and use a hand basket? do you put purchases in the stroller basket? my baby is no longer in a bucket seat, but is a bit wobbly sitting up, so I can't exactly put her in the shopping cart. and I may be the most inflexible person alive but I cannot, for the life of me, fasten the Ergo on my back without help--so I can't wear her into the store. I need to buy a good amount of stuff so I don't think a hand basket will work for me, but am concerned that the store will think I am stealing if I used the stroller basket |

Always use the stroller basket and nobody has ever given me a second look or said someting.
|
| How old is she? I wore my baby in the ergo on the front and still had decent range of motion. If you can't reach something up high, ask somebody nearby for help. |
| I have always used the stroller basket w/ both my children. |
I can't fasten the Ergo's straps on my upper back--for some reason my arms just cannot reach back there! thanks, everyone, I will just use the stroller and not worry about it!!! |
|
Stroller basket all the way!
As for the ergo. Try to loosen the straps that hold the arm things all the way and then see if you can reach to fasten it. You can move that back fastener higher on your back to be able to reach it. I had the same problem. Also, how to people put babies in the ergo straight out of the car seat? I can't figure out how but maybe that's because I'm still using the infant insert. |
|
I use the ergo for everything. I leave it all snapped and just loosen the side straps so I can put it on, put baby in, and then don't have to worry about snapping- just tighten the side straps. Baby is super secure that way.
I don't like using the stroller for errands...it just gets in the way. |
| I use the basket under the stroller. It works great! |
In addition to the strollar basket I hang reusable grocery bags from the strollar handle if I need more space. I also go at 9am on a weekend so if I'm fumbling there are less people to see (also FTM here)

Put the ergo on before you get out of the car, and then like the poster right below you mentioned...loosen the straps, put baby in, tighten straps. |
So I put the insert in before the baby too? At home I lay the baby into the insert and then put the whole thing into the ergo. Maybe I have to wait until she's bigger to attempt ergo from the car thing. |

You can put it in the stroller basket. There are also infant carts at a number of grocery stores that you can strap her into.
I personally would get something for babywearing that you can actually wear! If you can't strap the ergo, it's useless to you. |
| FTM who does not baby wear here. My snap and go had the best basket! I used that. Now that we're in the city mini, the basket sucks. I hook the plastic store basket onto two stroller hooks. |
| When my son was small I did a few trips with an Ergo (I put him in it and on in the car) but I had trouble putting on myself too. I used the stroller if I didn't need too many things. My son was very small so I bought a padded seat cover for the shopping cart. Once I put that thing in, there was so much padding around that it held him in pretty well. I started this when he was about 8-9 months and still wobbly sitting up. I may have even stuck a blanket in the sides for some extra support. Hope this helps! |
| In the ergo, move the strap all the way up to it fastens closer to your head/neck. If it is any farther down then you can't fasten yourself. |
