DS got into our IB elementary school for PK3, it wasn't our first choice(s) but that's besides the point. He currently goes to daycare and has since he was 3 months old, but once we pull him out of daycare to go to PK3 what do we do with him during the summer? Are there summer long camps for 3 and 4 year olds? If so, please share the name(s). What have all you other working parents with kids in daycare prior to PK done? Going back to our daycare for days off and summer break is NOT an option.
Where do you live? We live on the Hill and have 3 kids. We have done: Polite Piggy's, Mr. Tony's Adventure Camp, Busy Bees, Northeast Stars, Homerun Baseball Camp, Hoop-ed. . .
I found a wonderful camp called Kids Elite, that my 4 year and 10 year will go to this summer. My son (10) attended the last 2 years and would wake me up 6am excited to go everyday. My 4 year old (just turned 4 in Dec) went there for winter break and loved it as well.
OP here, we live in Brightwood.
There's a reason the camps forum exists OP. Please take a look.
JCC, Capitol Hill Day School, YMCA, DC Parks and Rec
We live in Brightwood and swear by Quality Time and Kids Elite our little ones
You find care for your kid. Not a school issue
Summer camp. DPR, YMCA, JCC, etc.
Near Brightwood: Kids Elite, Lowell, DPR, etc.
If you would like to drive across the park National Presbyterian (Camp Horizons) has a wonderful summer enrichment camp however, I must note that it doesn't come cheap when compared to other camps.
OP, there are dozens of camp options. I'm sure you will figure it out between now and summer 2017.
Our daycare allows drop ins for 3&4 year olds. I know most don't, but it might be worth checking.
We are in Petworth and we are going to be at Lowell for the summer (along with many neighbors/friends). There aren't many options for 3-4 year olds. I believe WIS has summer camps and we are also using some programs in MoCo. Luckily we can drop in at our previous daycare if need be.
Summer camp is no joke, especially for children younger than 6 (which seems to be a magical age boundary). The challenge of scrambling to find summer coverage for our child may actually be what convinces us to say no-thanks to our pk3 match and keep the kid in daycare for another year.
