Hi! I'm on my first IVF cycle and am curious about how responsive your nurses are at SGF? I have a few times emailed my nurse and had no response. Today, I called and left a voicemail with a question, and let nurse know I was ok with voicemail or email answer, and no response.
Is this common? They seem so busy, but I feel so uncared for right now. Thanks. |
| Are you currently cycling or just asking general follow up questions from her? If the former, my experience was very positive - emails and calls returned promptly. You can also request to switch nurses if you wish. |
| My nurse always responded within 24 hours and usually it was within an hour or 2 |
Thanks for responding. I'm currently cycling! That's why I'm upset. I just feel like left out on my own a little bit, you know? I was told my egg retrieval would be Thursday but it apparently won't be, but no one ever explained to me exactly why nor gave me a revised approximate timeline. I don't mind that it's delayed, but I DO want to know more, and that's what I asked about most recently with no reply. Am I asking too much? |
Wow--that's great, and what I would expect. Did she respond to emails? I find it odd that mine NEVER emails me. |
| I found it depended on the nurse. I was with a nurse who was very responsive, but she went out on maternity leave. The nurse I was reassigned to completely ignored me. Never called, never emailed, never returned my calls or emails, even when test results came in. I knew the results were in because the lab emailed to say so but the nurse ignored them. I switched nurses. New nurse is great, very responsive. |
| I've had two nurses there and both were responsive. it's one of the positives about shady grove. are you sure maybe she's not out of the office? I would call the main line and ask to speak to another member of your doctor's team, because she is unresponsive. |
| I had two different nurses at SG. The first one was responsive-ish but several times got her details wrong. I asked to switch. Second nurse was awesome. If I emailed with a question, she'd write me back within a couple of hours, if only to say she had to ask the doctor and get back to me. It was so comforting to have that access. I would recommend asking to switch. |

Mine was amazingly responsive. If we do another cycle I will have a new nurse though, so I'm not sure how she will be.
However if you are cycling your nurse should respond promptly. |
| I've had three different nurses at SG. All of them responded within the business day if it was M-F. The on-call nurses tend to be rather short and to-the-point, probably because I called with dosing questions rather than emergent situations. In general, if your nurse isn't responding to you I would call and ask to speak with a supervisor and/or switch. |
| The nurses are supposed to return calls/emails within 24 hours. I would switch if this isn't happening. |
| Agreed. My nurse is very responsive. |
| My nurses have always been responsive. I found calling to be a faster way of reaching them than email. (VMs returned more quickly than emails.) |
This is completely unacceptable. |
Who and when told you about Thursday? The preliminary calendar before stims? Or someone in person? How did you find out the retrieval is now not on Thursday? Dr? Email? Were you told to trigger yet? If not - anything before that is a waiting game you need patience. |
