LAMB Enrollment Increase

Anonymous
I was looking on the DCPCSB website to see if the SSMA or Lee locations are out for public hearing/comment yet and it looks like they aren't. (But Breakthrough is)

But new today? An enrollment ceiling increase for LAMB from 450 to 600. Does anyone have any more information on this? Timing/grades/plan/etc?

I wonder if they'd consider a Ward 7 / 8 campus where we need the quality seats most.

From the document:

"In an effort to provide more high quality seats at a Montessori school in the District, LAMB PCS is requesting an increase in its enrollment ceiling from 400 to 650 students over the next ten years."

I doubt it as they have rights to part of the building adjacent to DCI/Walter Reed.

That would lead me to believe they are adding a new primary class this year. 15 PK3 + 15 pk4 = 30 this year, 15 "new" seats each of the ensuing years.
Or maybe they can magically open their school to other grades.
Or join the myschooldc lottery?

No vote can be had on the proposal before mid-May.

Public comments are due 4/18. You should submit one.

I'd love to if I knew what the actual proposal is. I assume more information will come out.

The DCPCSB contact for this amendment can provide more information. It is Laterica ("Teri) Quinn: lquinn@dcpcsb.org

No magic necessary. The majority of the increase will come from a anticipated higher rate of retention of students in the upper grades due to the path to DCI.

As has been discussed on this board before, classes would be at the Missouri Avenue building, SD Avenue building and Walter Reed. It would be a pretty even division of students among the three buildings, though I the plan is for the SD building to have a slight plurality.

So LAMB won't know if it is going to add a primary class until May?

LAMB's request to expand its enrollment cap was only submitted this month. Public comment will be accepted during the April meeting. The earliest DCPCSB can vote is their May meeting (and sometimes that is pushed back).

If PP is right and this is at all related to the Walter Reed space, they wouldn't be doing anything next fall. The space isn't going to be ready.

But it's LAMB, so who knows?

anybody know what the demographics are at S. Dakota Ave?

I'd be surprised if it is different from Missouri, but if so it is only due to the small sample size.

Is LAMB at its max enrollment now?

Not at its ceiling.

Its website says it has 340 students. Learndc.org says there were 342 in 2014-15.
